Developing extra-curricular skills at university
During your time at university, you’ll have lots of opportunities to develop skills outside of your studies that will be useful in a future career.
Here are a few ideas to get you started.
LinkedIn Learning
University of Leeds students get unlimited access to LinkedIn Learning – a huge platform of online resources where you can learn a variety of skills.

Graduate LinkedIn Learning access
If you graduated in 2021 or 2022, fill in a registration for MyCareer to receive an email from LinkedIn Learning inviting you to join the platform within five working days. You'll need to register as a graduate on MyCareer.
If you’re a graduate from before 2021, please email the Graduate Support team at graduatesupport@leeds.ac.uk for access.
Part-time work
Students often get part-time jobs alongside their studies to help pay the bills. These are full of transferable skills that can strengthen your job applications – even if you don’t think it’s relevant to what you want to do.
Look out for part-time work opportunities on MyCareer, and through LUU’s Joblink.
Volunteering
If you’ve got the time and want to grow your CV while giving back to the community, try volunteering. We have a dedicated volunteering team who work alongside loads of fantastic local organisations and are often looking for student volunteers.
Visit the Volunteering Hub on MyCareer to find upcoming opportunities. You could also check out Doing Good Leeds and Do it.
Student societies
Student clubs and societies can help you build skills for future work, including running campaigns, organising events and working as part of a committee.
