Manar’s experience

“I love being part of the International Welcome team, as one of the most exciting and motivating aspects of this work is the opportunity to engage with new students and create a welcoming feeling for them from the first moment they arrive at the airport.

It's great to see the relief on their faces when they realise that they have someone to help them navigate the new environment.”

Kayleigh’s experience

“Being part of the International Welcome team has been one of the highlights of my university career as I was able to develop a range of skills that have helped me personally and professionally. Getting to know international students was an extremely rewarding experience and became something that I consistently looked forward to doing.

Being able to go to work and have meaningful conversations with people from all over the world provided me with such great opportunities to discover more about the different cultures that exist and thrive on campus.

My role involved welcoming students at the airport, facilitating welcome activities and assisting at Global Café, where I looked forward to seeing old and new faces each week. It’s incredible to know that your actions are making such a huge difference in people’s lives.”

Joseph’s experience

“I am incredibly grateful to have been given the opportunity to work with the International Welcome team, viewing firsthand the positive effect of our work through students’ reactions and comments.

Whether assisting at airport pickups or hosting social events, contributing towards a student thriving at our university has been an honour.”
