Placement years

Most of our students can undertake a placement year (year in industry) as part of their degree.

You would normally take your placement year after year two (or after year three if you are on an integrated Masters course).

Completing a placement year will allow you to:

  • apply skills developed during your studies
  • gain new skills from your placement role
  • learn about different industries and job sectors
  • make informed career decisions
  • boost your employability.

Read about some of our students’ experiences and the benefits they gained on the Careers Service blog.

How to apply for a placement year

Each of our faculties has a dedicated employability team who can help you find and apply for placements and talk through the module requirements for your course.

If your home school does not offer a placement year option, you can still take a placement through the CSER8000 module. Email the CSER8000 module team at cser8000team@leeds.ac.uk for more information.

Find further support on Minerva on how to search for, find and apply for a placement.

Paid placement years

You also have access to a range of paid placement year opportunities that are only open to students here at Leeds.

Browse our latest vacancies on MyCareer and update your email preferences to ‘opportunities exclusive to me’ to hear about roles when they are advertised.

Opportunities are advertised all year round in a variety of work settings including SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises), charities and public sector organisations, as well as placements based on campus.
