Internship/placement opportunities
Placement years for undergraduates
We advertise a range of undergraduate placements in local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), charities and multi-national organisations, as well as on-campus placements working for departments at the University.
Duration
9 to 12 months.
Eligibility
Undergraduate students in their second year or penultimate year of study who want to take a year in industry as part of their degree.
When they are advertised
All year round but usually between October and May.
Summer internships for undergraduates
We advertise a range of paid internships in local small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), charities and multi-national organisations, as well as on-campus placements working for departments at the University.
As the majority of these opportunities are exclusive to University of Leeds students, the number of applicants you are competing against is lower than in national internship schemes.
Duration
8 to 12 weeks.
Eligibility
Undergraduate students in their first year, second year, or penultimate year of study. Many of our summer internships are also open are open to final year students.
When they are advertised
All year round but most are advertised between February and June.
Internships for final year students and graduates
We will be advertising a number of paid graduate internships with businesses and charities. Some of these internships will be extended and could turn in to full-time roles.
Eligibility
Final year students graduating in summer 2024 looking for paid work experience in Leeds and the surrounding area.
When they are advertised
All year round but most are advertised between February and June.
Insight events
Our insight events allow you to:

Eligibility
All current students, including postgraduates.
We particularly encourage applications from students from under-represented backgrounds or those who may not have had access to similar opportunities in the past.

As an intern, you will get involved in many exciting projects while gaining new skills, experience and offering support that organisations find invaluable.
Previous interns have:
- managed social media and marketing activities
- designed websites
- completed research into the effectiveness of services.
Many have been offered further part-time work or a graduate job as a result of their internship.
