Transfer to a different university
Transferring to a different university is usually possible if you think you’ve made the wrong choice.
How to find out if you can transfer
Contact the university you want to transfer to. They will let you know:
- if they can accept your application
- if you can transfer credits gained at Leeds onto a new study course.
Make sure you are accepted before leaving your course at Leeds.
What to do if you are accepted
Tell the Student Support Office in your School. Your personal tutor may also want to speak with you and offer advice.
Then, complete a Leaver’s Enquiry Form.
You must provide your new university with a record of your prior learning. You can apply for a transcript of the credits you’ve gained at Leeds as evidence.
What to do about your student loan
Your new university will contact the Student Loans Company. They’ll calculate your tuition fee based on when you transferred and what you’ve already paid.
You can get more information from the ‘Transferring from one university to another’ section of the Changes in Circumstances page.
Your new university shouldn’t charge you again if a tuition fee instalment has already been made to the University of Leeds. Check with their student Finance department as soon as you arrive.
What to do if you’re an international student
If you have a Student (previously Tier 4) visa, you’ll be assigned a new Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS). You’ll need to leave the UK to make another visa application.
Email the Student Visa Advice team at StudentVisaAdvice@leeds.ac.uk team with any questions.
