Explanation of award status
When you get your final results, you will also see your award status and classification. Find out what the different statuses mean.

What the different award statuses mean
When you access your results from the Results and Resit Application page on Minerva, you will see the sub-heading ‘Award status’ followed by one of the following and then (if applicable) your classification:
- Awarded
- Bachelors resit UG masters (engineering students only)
- Ordinary resitting for Honours
- Failure
- Pending finalists
- Sought.
Awarded
- You have been awarded your degree.
- If you failed any modules, you can apply to resit them to try to improve your results, provided you haven’t already used all your resit opportunities. By applying to resit you are deferring your award.
- If you don’t apply for a resit before the deadline it will be assumed you have accepted your award and declined all resit opportunities.
Bachelors resit UG masters (engineering students only)
- You are eligible for a bachelor award.
- You can either apply to resit modules that you have failed or accept the award and decline all further reset opportunities.
- To accept the Bachelor award, email the Assessment and Progress team at examinations@leeds.ac.uk, stating your full name, your 9-digit ID number and a sentence stating your intention to accept the Bachelors Award. Please type the name of your parent school and the words ‘Bachelor Award’ as a subject field of your message.
Ordinary resitting for Honours
- You are eligible for an award of an Ordinary degree (also known as a degree without honours).
- You can either:
- apply to resit modules you failed this term to try to achieve an Honours degree, provided that you haven’t already used all of your resit opportunities, or
- you can accept the award and decline all further resit opportunities.
- To accept the Ordinary degree, email the Assessment and Progress team at examinations@leeds.ac.uk, stating your full name, 9-digit ID number and a sentence stating your intentions to accept the Ordinary degree. Please type the name of your parent school and the words ‘Ordinary Award’ as a subject field of your message.
Failure
- You have not met the rules for award for your programme of study, and have failed your degree.
- You can apply to resit the modules you failed this term, provided that you haven't already used all of your resit opportunities.
Failure – had all attempts
- You have not met the rules for award for your programme of study, and have failed your degree.
- You are not eligible for any further resit opportunities and you are required to permanently withdraw from the university.
- If you’re eligible for an exit award, you'll be notified later in the year.
Pending finalists
- You have not yet been awarded. For further information or guidance, please contact your school.
- You can apply to resit any modules you have failed this term, provided that you haven’t already used all of your resit opportunities.
Sought
You have not completed your degree programme.
