Newsletter sent to returning students on 16 October 2020

Hello! We want to remind you that campus is open - to explore, to study, to relax and make friends. We know the past few months haven’t been ideal and over the next few weeks we’ll be sharing ways you can rediscover Leeds. From finding hidden study spaces on campus, getting the perfect Instagram pics all the way through to the best cafes on campus for a hot drink and some of the ways you can get out and get active, they’ll be something for everyone! So stay tuned, and we hope to see you on our social channels we’re you can join us to share your love for Leeds!  


Looking for a new place to study? Can't study at home? Need a change of scenery? We understand. That’s why we’ve made sure there’s lots of study spaces that you can use on campus. All you need to do it is get your coat, your laptop, a pair of headphones (optional) and come study somewhere different and safe. Find more information about where you can study on campus. 


Self-isolating support and guidance

We’re regularly updating the self-isolating support and guidance information on the student website as new information becomes available – take a look if you’re unsure about what you need to do or how you can get food supplies or get started with your studies while self-isolating. 

Need further advice and guidance? If you're worried about missing a deadline, or you have questions, you can phone or email the student information helpline.Check out the updated guidance on our coronavirus website, including how to report that you are self-isolating or have tested positive for covid-19. You can also contact LUU’s Help and Support for help and advice. 


 

Read our online learning supportto discover what being an online learner means, how you can prepare for your online classes, and how to navigate the different online learning and virtual classroom systems that you may encounter during your studies. 

There’s lots of information to read, including informaiotn about:

  • Different tools and applications
  • Skills to help manage your time online
  • Being active in online classes
  • Improving your communication with your lectures and other students.

Get involved to help us improve our newsletter and other ways we send information out to student…

Throughout the year, we’ll be running virtual feedback sessions to look at how we can improve the way we send students information through email, social and on Minerva. Complete our online form if you’re interested in joining these sessions. Selected students will be sent £10 – details on how will be confirmed with individuals.  


Thinking ahead…. 

  • If you have religious commitments that may clash with the University assessment period, you can notify the exams team and find out what arrangements can be put in place. Check out the link to find out more. The deadline for the January 2021 assessment period is Friday 23 October 2020. 
  • The University of Leeds Enterprise Scholarship Scheme 2020/21 is open and applications must be submitted electronically by 10am on Friday 30 October 2020 to spark@leeds.ac.uk. Applications will then be considered by a formal review panel and the shortlisted applicants will be invited to present online to the panel on Wednesday 11 or Friday 13 November 2020.                       
  • Don’t forget we’ve got the Volunteering Fair (20 October) and STEM Fair (22 October) coming up! Download the CareerFair+ app and search ‘Leeds’ to find our upcoming fairs and explore the organisations taking part. You can use the virtual drop-ins or book 1-to-1 appointments to ask about volunteering opportunities, grad schemes, recruitment processes and more. Many volunteering opportunities have gone virtual, so it’s a great way to boost your CV while you’re safe at home.
