During your Study Abroad year

Once you know you'll be studying abroad, you'll need to arrange accommodation, insurance, visas, proof of your finances and maybe some foreign language studies.

Being accepted for Study Abroad is an exciting time but make sure you have done all the necessary preparation and planning before you go.

Study Abroad academic requirements and support

Each parent school has a dedicated academic who will be able to advise you on different aspects of your year abroad. 

Study abroad competition

The Global Opportunities photo, video and blog competition is open to all Leeds students who have completed a global opportunity during the 2022/23 academic year. This could include a study abroad placement for a semester or full year, completing a summer school programme, and also international work placements or volunteering. Submissions from both online and in person experiences are welcome!

Wellbeing abroad

We want you to stay safe and have a rewarding experience, wherever you are going in the world! Living abroad means adapting to a new environment, new lifestyle, new culture, as with any form of travel these things can affect your health and safety.

Working abroad

You may have chosen a particlaur expensive country to live in or require more money for trips and excursions. This is now an opportunity to get work experience or take up a part time job. Working abroad can give you some great skills allowing you to enhance communication and interpersonal skills. These will be requested of you in any job interview. There are plenty of opportunities to work abroad. You can spend some time working abroad – whether it’s short-term or part of your longer-term career plans.
