Training and inductions you need to do
To start your research you need to:
- complete registration and ID check (LINK to registration)
- Complete the Doctoral College induction programme
- Read the information and advice from your Graduate School about your faculty or school induction and training
- agree a training plan with your supervisor (in the first three months)
- complete IT induction
What you need to do to start supervision meetings
You need to:
- set up your first meeting with your supervisor
- attend your first supervisor meeting and add the meeting notes to your GRAD record
- create your postgraduate supervisor agreement (link to download) as part of your first meeting
- upload your postgraduate supervisor agreement to GRAD (PDF download link) as a training event
Training plan
Agree a training plan with your supervisor and add it to the development section of GRAD.
You should discuss:
- what help you might need for you to do your research
- what other help you may need
- what taught modules might help with any gaps in or refresh your knowledge
You need to agree the plan within three months. Once the training plan is agreed your progress will be reviewed as part of your:
- supervision meetings
- first formal progress review (FFPR) report
- transfer stage
- annual progress reviews
Optional and compulsory taught modules
You can choose to:
- go to lectures or seminars which are part of a taught module. You do not need to do coursework or exams if you are auditing this module
- take an assessed taught module (additional fees may be charged for this).
Some research programmes have taught modules that you must do. Your Graduate School will let you know if that is the case.
Your Graduate School will can let you know your options and if there is availability to take optional modules.
