Changing modules

You can use Student Services to make changes to your optional and discovery module choices while online module enrolment system is open.

If online module enrolment has closed, you need to request the changes using the change of module form. Each academic year, the form closes at 5pm on the Friday of the third teaching week of the second semester. After this time, please contact your school for advice if you’d like exceptions to be considered.

Changes may need to be approved by the schools of the old and new module choices as well as the school for your course. If all schools agree then the change can be made. Schools may contact you to discuss the changes.

Study abroad students

If you’re an incoming study abroad student, please contact your study abroad coordinator in your school to make changes to your modules.

How decisions are made

Schools consider multiple factors to decide if you can change modules. These include:

  • your attendance record
  • if the change is within your course rules
  • any pre-requisites or co-requisites for your new module choice
  • the capacity and availability of the new module choice
  • your timetable.

Compulsory modules

You can’t make changes to the compulsory modules of your course.

If you want to change course, you’ll need to contact your school as soon as possible for advice. You can also read about how to transfer to a different course.

Deadlines for making module changes

Many schools don’t accept module changes after the second week of teaching in the semester. Visit University term dates to find when teaching starts each semester.

If you want to enrol on a module after after the second week of teaching you need to:

  • check the deadlines for the school the module is in
  • check with your school.

You can’t make changes to most modules after the fourth week of teaching unless there are exceptional circumstances. In these cases, you have to pay a £50 fee.
