Reporting crime
University Security Services and the police work together to keep Leeds students as safe and secure as possible. If you witness a crime, or are a victim of a crime, always report it to the police and to University Security Services. You will also need a crime report number from the police if you want to make a claim on your insurance.

The police
The Police’s role includes:
- receiving crime reports
- receiving lost property reports
- giving crime prevention advice
- patrolling the city
- investigating crimes
- responding to emergencies.
If you're a victim of crime it's important to report it, even if it seems minor. LUU Help and Support and the University’s Harassment and Misconduct Team can help you, and give you more information and support.
By phone
You can phone the police to report a crime:
- Call 101 when it it not an emergency
- In an emergency call 999
Online
In a non-emergency situation, you can report a crime online or talk to the police using the 101 Live Chat system.
University support
- The Harassment and Misconduct Team: specialist, experienced advisors who can talk through your options around reporting as well as considering support available to you, both practically and emotionally.
- Leeds University Union Help and Support (LUU): experienced advisers can offer you practical, legal and emotional support.
- Student Counselling and wellbeing : if you want to talk about your experience you can receive confidential one-to-one support from an experienced counsellor.
- Your tutor/supervisor: if you feel that your experience could have an impact on your studies then let your tutor or supervisor know that you have been a victim of crime. You can submit a mitigating circumstances letter. Your personal tutor details are on the Leeds for Life website.
- Security Services: offer crime prevention advice, patrol the campus, investigate crimes and respond to alarms and emergencies.
