Life in a new social, cultural and academic environment is exciting but can feel challenging. Whether you've recently arrived in Leeds or you've been here for some time, there's lots of support to help you feel at home.
Asking for help
If you've got a question or problem, please ask for help as soon as you need it because there’s lots of support available and people to contact for advice.
After you arrive in Leeds, you may need to register with the police, depending on where you've come from and how long you'll be here.
Opening a UK bank account
If you're moving to Leeds from outside the UK you'll need access to your money and the easiest way is to open a UK bank account.
Collecting your Biometric Residence Permit
If you have a Tier 4 (General) student visa or a Short Term Study Visa and are attending a course for six months or longer, you’ll need to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) when you arrive in Leeds.
Local transport and finding your way around
Leeds is a compact city and it's relatively easy to find your way around, whether you're on foot, cycling or on a bus.
Accessible facilities on campus
The University has many accessible facilities available across campus for disabled students including adapted accommodation, medical support, and The Edge.
As a student in Leeds, you'll need to register with a doctor, and be familiar with where to go if you need help, treatment or advice.
