History and Culture
Interested in the ways in which technological changes have been embedded in past and present lives?
From practical heritage work with the University’s Museum of the History of Science, Technology and Medicine to the critical analysis of the role of technology in social change, this sub-theme offers much scope for reflection.
A major emphasis is on the deep historical analysis of rapid technological change, and on the philosophical analysis of what technologies mean for the nature of human existence.
"There is no reason anyone would want a computer in their home": Ken Olson (President, Chairman and Founder of Digital Equipment Corporation) at the Convention of the World Future Society in Boston in 1977
