Masters by Research milestones and progress monitoring

You’ll have regular milestone and progress checks during your Masters by Research programme. The timing of these milestones depends on whether you’re studying full-time or part-time. The following details show when you should expect each milestone to happen.

Milestones by attendance model

Full-time students

Full time students are expected to meet the following progression deadlines

  • Month one: complete your PGR-Supervisor agreement with your supervisors
  • Month three: complete your Training plan
    For full-time Masters by Research students, it is recommended that you do this earlier due to your shorter programme of study.
  • By month six: complete your First formal progress review
    Some schools have different deadlines for this and you will be contacted if this applies to you.
  • Month nine: Submit your exam entry form in GRAD
  • Month 12Submit your thesis for examination
    Your viva is normally held within three months of your thesis being sent to your examiners.

0.75 FTE part-time students

Students studying part-time at 0.75 Full Time Equivalent (FTE), or at 75% of the time of a full-time student, are expected to meet the following progression deadlines.

0.6 FTE part-time students

Students studying part-time at 0.6 Full Time Equivalent (FTE), or at 60% of the time of a full-time student, are expected to meet the following progression deadlines.

0.5 FTE part-time students

Students studying part-time at 0.5 Full Time Equivalent (FTE), or at 50% of the time of a full-time student, are expected to meet the following progression deadlines.
