Placements make up a significant part of your course. Find out what you can do to ensure you're prepared and have the information you need.
The Clinical Placement Reporting Tool
An Enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) certificate is required for students undertaking clinical placements as part of their studies within the School of Medicine. The certification process is undertaken on entry to the programme and repeated once every three years whilst the student is still undertaking the same programme of study.
Health and Safety The primary duty of care of a doctor is to patients. Medical students likewise have this responsibility to the patients with whom they will come into contact and this is set out by the General Medical Council (GMC).
The new Student Travel Policy and comprehensive Student Placement infomation can be found on Minerva (VLE & Portal). The Student Placement information document includes detailed information regarding student travel options, accommodation and funding contributions/expenses for students travelling to placement (e.g. School of Medicine travel contribution one-off payments; travel expenses paid by Trusts and NHS Bursary information).
Transitioning Well Resources
The GMC expects doctors to inform others if there is a concern about the “fitness to practise” of doctor colleagues. The aim of this is to protect patients from the actions of incompetent, sick or unprofessional doctors. The GMC has recently investigated and punished doctors who did nothing whilst knowing of another doctor’s inappropriate actions.
