Bradford Access funding
The Bradford Partnership agreement ended in 2020.
This information is for students already at Leeds and on the scheme.
The gateway year to medicine
For future Medics, Leeds has the Gateway to Medicine.
Students on the Bradford Clinical Sciences Foundation Year wishing to apply to Leeds Medical School are considered via UCAS, with full details of the requirements available on the Course Search site. Please note, there are no reserved places on any medical programmes for students who have studied on the Clinical Sciences course and there is no agreement for students to transfer directly into year 2 of Medicine.
The Bradford Partnership
The Bradford University Partnership was a scheme designed to widen access to Medicine at Leeds.
The two main routes into Medicine at Leeds via Bradford were for students who completed the Clinical Science foundation year at Bradford and then progressed into year one of Medicine at Leeds and students who completed the Clinical Science foundation year and year one at Bradford and then progressed directly into year two Medicine at Leeds.
Being on the Bradford Access Medicine with Integral Foundation Year six-year course at Leeds indicates that your foundation year at Bradford is not ‘previous study’, but is integral to the ordinary length of your course.
Students who progressed directly into year two Medicine, having studied the Clinical Sciences year one without having also undertaken the foundation year of Clinical Sciences will have transferred into the Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBChB) five-year programme.
For Bradford students transferring into Medicine with an integral Foundation year, year 4 would fall in the fifth ‘year of study’ and therefore attract NHS funding for the final two years of Medicine.
Your funding would be supplied as follows:
- Foundation year in Clinical Sciences: Student Loans Company (SLC)
- Year one: SLC
- Year two: SLC
- Year three: SLC
- Year four: NHS
- Year five: NHS
Bradford study and repeat funding
The rules about how funding works where there have been integral study years at Bradford plus repeat years is complex and the Funding team can advise. However, here is an example of where the fifth year of study occurs where a Bradford Access student repeated an academic year. The year 2 repeat would be funded by the Student Loans Company with a gift year of funding.
If you repeat a year of study, your funding would be supplied as follows:
- Foundation year in Clinical Sciences: Student Loans Company (SLC)
- Year one: SLC
- Year two: SLC
- Repeat of year two: SLC
- Year three: SLC
- Year four: NHS
- Year five: NHS
