Starting your postgraduate online course
Before you get started on your course there are some steps you need to take to prepare for studying here.
Completing these steps will help you to gain access to your IT account and your University of Leeds email address which you will need before you start learning.
Set up your IT and email account
Your University account gives you access to our systems, including your University of Leeds student email on Microsoft Outlook.
- It’s the first thing you need to do before you can register.
- We will use your University of Leeds student email to send you important information about your course.
You will need to do this 60 days before your course start date if you have accepted your offer at this stage.
If you accept your offer within 60 days of your start date you will be able to access your IT account within three working days.
Activate your IT account. Use a laptop or a computer to activate your IT account, not a mobile phone.
Pay the fees for your first module
Before you start your course, you will need to pay your module fees.
Find out more about how to pay your fees and fee deadlines.
Complete the University’s registration process
Registration helps us to understand how you’ll pay your fees, the course you’re enrolled on and verify your identity.
As part of online registration you will also agree to the Student Contract, which makes you an official student at the University.
You’ll need to complete this process annually on the anniversary of your start date as well as any time you return to your studies following a period of leave.
Complete the Pathways to Success induction course
Before you can start learning, you’ll be enrolled onto the Pathways to Success induction course where you’ll be given an introduction to studying online.
You’ll find out more about how to use Minerva, the Virtual Learning Environment or Coursera, depending on your programme
If you have any questions about the induction course or cannot access it, email the Digital Education Service Student Education and Experience team at DESstudents@leeds.ac.uk.
Complete the academic integrity tutorial and test
On your course you will develop academic skills that will help you to keep track of your ideas and how to reference them accurately in your work.
