Dates and deadlines for online learning

If you’re studying a postgraduate course online, you need to know:

  • the start and end dates of your teaching periods
  • the deadlines for registration, enrolment, mitigating circumstances and assessments
  • When the University is closed
  • When the clocks change in the UK as this may affect your deadlines if you are studying outside the UK. 

You will find the University closed dates in your module handbook and they will apply to everyone completing online courses.

The following dates are for students completing:

  • Online Masters with the 15-credit project
  • Online Postgraduate Diploma
  • Online Postgraduate Certificate

If you’re on the online Masters course with the 45-credit project, the University’s closed days will also apply to you.

If you have a loan or sponsorship, you must submit any applications for temporary leave before the enrolment confirmation deadline for each module. If you do not apply for temporary leave before the enrolment confirmation deadline, you will remain enrolled on your course and be expected to complete your assessments.

Important dates by teaching period

July/August 2026

  • Teaching starts: Monday 6 July
  • Registration deadline: Friday 10 July
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 13 July
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at July’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 15 July
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at August’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 12 August
  • University closed dates: Monday 31 August and Tuesday 1 September
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC+1 time) Monday 24 August

September/October 2026

  • Teaching starts: Monday 7 September
  • Registration deadline: Friday 11 September 
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 14 September 
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at September’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 16 September 
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at October's Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 7 October  
  • UK clocks change to UTC: Sunday 25 October. The final submission deadline for this module’s teaching period will be in UTC. 
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC) Monday 26 October

November/December 2026

  • Teaching starts: Monday 2 November 
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at November's Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 11 November
  • Registration deadline: Friday 6 November 
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 9 November 
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at December’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 9 December
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC) Monday 21 December.
  • University closed dates: Thursday 24 December to Friday 1 January for Christmas. Both academic and supportive queries will be replied to after the break. 

January/February 2027

  • Teaching starts: Monday 11 January 
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at January’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 13 January 
  • Registration deadline: Friday 15 January 
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 18 January 
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at February’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 3 February 
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC time) Monday 1 March 

March/April 2027

  • Teaching starts: Monday 8 March 
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at March’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 10 March 
  • Registration deadline: Friday 12 March 
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 15 March 
  • University closed dates: Thursday 25th March to Tuesday 30th March for Easter. If this closure aligns with specific mid-module assessments, your module content will provide further information. Both academic and supportive queries will be replied to after the break. 
  • UK clocks change to UTC+1: Sunday 28 March 
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at April’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 14 April 
  • University closed dates: Monday 3 May for the UK Bank Holiday. Both academic and supportive queries will be replied to after the break. 
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC time+1) Tuesday 4 May 

May/June 2027​​​​

  • Teaching starts: Monday 10 May 
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at May’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 12 May 
  • Registration deadline: Friday 14 May 
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 17 May 
  • University closed dates: Monday 31 May and Tuesday 1 June for the UK Spring Bank Holiday. If this closure aligns with specific mid-module assessments, your module content will provide further information. Both academic and supportive queries will be replied to after the break. 
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at June’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 2 June 
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC+1 time) Monday 28 June 

July/August 2027
