Dates and deadlines for online learning

If you’re studying a postgraduate course online, you need to know:

  • the start and end dates of your teaching periods
  • the deadlines for registration, enrolment, mitigating circumstances and assessments
  • When the University is closed
  • When the clocks change in the UK as this may affect your deadlines if you are studying outside the UK. 

You will find the University closed dates in your module handbook and they will apply to everyone completing online courses.

The following dates are for students completing:

  • Online Masters with the 15-credit project
  • Online Postgraduate Certificate

If you’re on the online Masters course with the 45-credit project, the University’s closed days will also apply to you.

If you have a loan or sponsorship, you must submit any applications for temporary leave before the enrolment confirmation deadline for each module. If you do not apply for temporary leave before the enrolment confirmation deadline, you will remain enrolled on your course and be expected to complete your assessments.

Important dates by teaching period

September/October 2025

  • Teaching starts: Monday 8 September
  • Registration deadline: Friday 12 September
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 15 September
  • Mitigating circumstances deadline: Wednesday 8 October
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC time) Monday 27 October
  • UK clocks change on Sunday 26 October. The final submission deadline for this module’s teaching period will be in UTC.

November/December 2025

  • Teaching starts: Monday 3 November
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at November's Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 5 November
  • Registration deadline: Friday 7 November
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 10 November
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at December’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 10 December
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC time) Monday 22 December
  • University closed dates: Wednesday 24 December – Thursday 1 January. Both academic and supportive queries will be replied to after the break.

January/February 2026

  • Teaching starts: Monday 12 January
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at January’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 14 January
  • Registration deadline: Friday 16 January
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 19 January
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at February’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 11 February
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC time) Monday 2 March

March/April 2026

  • Teaching starts: Monday 9 March
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at March’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 11 March
  • Registration deadline: Friday 13 March
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 16 March
  • UK clocks change to UTC+1: Sunday 29 March
  • University closed dates: Thursday 2 April – Tuesday 7 April. Both academic and supportive queries will be replied to after the break.
    The University will also be closed on Monday 4 May for the May UK Bank Holiday.
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at April’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 15 April
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC time+1) Tuesday 5 May

May/June2026

  • Teaching starts: Monday 11 May
  • Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at May’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 13 May
  • Registration deadline: Friday 15 May
  • Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 18 May
  • University closed dates: Monday 25 May and Tuesday 26 May for the UK Spring Bank Holiday. If this closure aligns with specific mid-module assessments, your Module Handbook will provide further information. 
  • Deadline for Mitigating circumstances applications to be considered at June’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 3 June
  • Assessment deadline: 2pm (UTC+1 time) Monday 29 June

July/August 2026

Teaching starts: Monday 6 July
Registration deadline: Friday 10 July
Enrolment confirmation deadline: Monday 13 July
Deadline for Mitigating Circumstances applications to be considered at July’s Special Circumstances committee meeting: Wednesday 15 July
