Settling In Series: events for new disabled students

The Settling In Series takes place during the first two weeks of Semester 1. Join us for friendly, relaxed and practical sessions to help you settle into life at Leeds as a disabled student.

Please complete the Settling In Series booking form for the events you’d like to join. This helps us manage numbers, but you’re also welcome to come along on the day without booking, subject to availability.

You may also bring your own food to our lunchtime events and eat during the session. 

All sessions take place at Disability Services, room 163, Chemistry West block. Find Disability Services on campus.

Week 1 (21–25 September)

Monday to Friday, 11am–1pm: Fill in your forms drop-in

Drop into our daily admin sessions for support with completing key disability forms, or just access a quiet space to complete them yourself. We can help you with:

Monday, 1–2pm: Quiet space lunch

A calm place for disabled students to enjoy lunch and connect with others if they wish. Bring your own food and feel free to chat, or simply relax in your own space.

Monday, 2–4pm: Jigsaws and Lego

A chance to unwind and get creative in a peaceful space. Drop in whenever you can and enjoy an afternoon of jigsaws and Lego.

Tuesday, 1–2pm: Understanding your disability support options

Learn more about the disability support available at Leeds, including exam arrangements, libraries and support workers, and how these services can help your studies.

Tuesday, 2–4pm: Potting herbs to take home

Green fingers at the ready! Join a relaxed herb potting workshop and take home a plant to enjoy afterwards.

Wednesday, 1–2pm: Introduction to assistive technology

Did you know you can talk to your laptop, hear your lecture notes read aloud, or use your phone to organise your time? Join Tom, our Assistive Technology Advisor, to learn more about how technology can support you.

Wednesday, 2–4pm: Mindful colouring

Take a break from campus life with a gentle afternoon of mindful colouring in a quiet space.

Thursday, 1–2pm: Support and tips for visually impaired students

This session is for blind and visually impaired students.

Led by our disability coordinators and colleagues from the RNIB, this session introduces the support available to blind students and offers practical tips for navigating campus life with a visual impairment.

Thursday, 2–4pm: Make your own paper decoration

Drop in for a creative afternoon of paper decoration making.

Thursday, 2–4pm: Accessible campus tour

Join us for an accessible campus tour to discover step-free routes, quiet spaces, and other features designed to support your day-to-day experience.

Friday, 1–2pm: Support and tips for autistic and ADHD students

This session is for students who identify as neurodivergent. You do not need a diagnosis to attend.

Gain confidence in university life with guidance on accessing support and navigating aspects of campus as a neurodivergent student.

Friday, 2–4pm: Jigsaws, Lego and pizza

This session is for students with long-term mental health conditions

Join us for a 10 minute guided meditation followed by advice on accessing the resources available to you.

A relaxed afternoon of mindful crafting. Learn how to crochet and create your own square.

Our disability coordinators share tips and advice on the support available for Deaf and hearing-impaired students.  A BSL interpreter will be present.
