Accessible facilities on campus

Accessible campus route
Campus includes an accessible, step-free route marked on our interactive campus map. To view it, click on the ‘walks/routes’ tab on the map. You can also follow the written directions for the accessible campus route.
The route is marked by signs and involves the use of lifts at some points. It’s open during working hours at the University. If you’re visiting outside of working hours you can request a key fob by completing the key fob application form (Word doc).
Accessible toilets
Buildings with accessible toilets are shown on the campus map. You can also view a list of accessible toilets on campus.
Disability Services, based in the Chemistry West building, has a changing places toilet. Facilities include a changing bed, shower, and a track ceiling hoist (you’ll need to provide your own sling). Watch the video of how to find Disability Services on campus.
The Laidlaw Library has a changing places toilet, including a rise and fall wash/dry toilet (Closomat). Ask for a key at the Laidlaw Library reception.
Accommodation
There are several adapted University residences available if you choose to stay in a hall of residence. These also include larger rooms for students who need extra space for equipment, as well as rooms for personal assistants or support workers.

Braille/tactile maps
Braille/tactile maps of Leeds city centre are available from the Tourist Information Centre on the Headrow (underneath Leeds Art Gallery). Or you can order them by emailing the Tourist Information Centre at tourinfo@visitleeds.co.uk.
Car parking
The University has designated parking spaces on campus for disabled staff, students and visitors – see more information on the car parking website.
Disabled students and staff should apply for a disabled parking permit for the University by presenting their blue badge, along with student or staff ID to the Security Office. Email the Car Parking team at carparking@leeds.ac.uk for more information.

Deaf Alerter system
Deaf Alerter is a radio-based fire alarm warning and public address messaging system for people unable to hear audible alarms. Students and visitors can borrow a pager by emailing Disability Services at disability@leeds.ac.uk.

Hearing technology
Most central teaching space rooms are fitted with hard of hearing systems using either infrared transmitters or induction loop systems.
IT
The IT department supports all the IT services at the University, including the computer clusters. View the full list of software available from IT.

Spending facilities (dog toilets)
There are four spending facilities on campus for assistance dogs to use:
- Chemistry West Block – to the left of the main entrance
- 18 Beech Grove Terrace – behind the building
- Clarendon Place – grassed area where Clarendon Place meets Clobbery Street
- 5-9 Willow Terrace Road – behind the building on the grassed area near the car park

Study rooms
There are several designated accessible student study rooms with assistive technology provision and adjustable furniture which you can book:
Laidlaw Library
- Rooms 1 (on the second floor) and 2 (on the third floor). Book these rooms.
Edward Boyle Library
- Rooms 1, 2 and 3 (on Level 9) and a room on Level 10. Book these rooms.
Brotherton Library

Room B16 (on floor – main 1).
There is an ergonomic keyboard and mouse with a computer connected to a scanner in this room.
Book this room in advance at the Brotherton Library enquiry desk or call the library on +44(0)113 343 5514.
You will also need to collect the key from the enquiry desk during their core opening hours. To book and collect the key in self-service hours please ask at the reception desk or call the library on +44(0)113 343 5514.
Sports centre
The Edge sports centre includes a pool hoist and a moveable swimming pool floor to assist wheelchair users into the pool, as well as gym equipment designed to be used by wheelchair users.
It also has fully accessible toilets and showers.
