[Carys Corkhill, Harassment and Misconduct Advisor, appears on the screen]
Carys: Hi, I'm Carys.
[Lorna de Fenzi, Harassment and Misconduct Advisor, appears on the screen]
Lorna: My name is Lorna de Fenzi.
[Charlotte Webster, Harassment and Misconduct Manager, appears on the screen]
Charlotte: My name is Charlotte Webster. I'm the Harassment and Misconduct Manager at the University of Leeds.
[Lorna appears on the screen]
Lorna: We can provide a non-judgmental, safe space to talk about options and empower them in terms of the next steps they would like to take.
So that might be around practical support, it might be around emotional support. And what we will look at is risk and safety.
And we will talk about reporting options so they can expect to come to a non-judgmental space to feel empowered in terms of the next steps that they want to take.
[Carys appears on the screen]
Carys: You'll also know which advisor is going to meet you in reception, and then when you're ready, we can start to talk about the reason for contacting our service.
[Charlotte appears on the screen]
Charlotte: So someone can contact us at any point after something has happened, whether it's recent or there's been a little bit of time that's elapsed.
We might be the first people that you tell and the first people that you make a disclosure to, which is absolutely okay. Or you might choose to tell a friend, a trusted staff member, an academic or somebody within the community as well.
Talking to us doesn't mean that you have to take any next steps. It means that you can think about what you would like to do next and access all the information, advice and guidance that you need to make an informed choice.
[Carys appears on the screen]
Carys: They can come whenever they want. So it's whenever works for the student.
And I think there's no time frame. Sometimes if you've experienced something, it might take you a little bit of time to process what’s happened before asking for support.
[Charlotte appears on the screen]
Charlotte: So, following a meeting with a member of the team we will always send you a summary of what we've discussed so you don't have to take that all in at the appointment.
And we'll follow up with any next steps that we might have agreed together. So that can look like signposting you or referring you into different services, introducing you to people like our police liaison officer, or maybe our accommodation team, or our wonderful advisors within Leeds University Union as well.
[Lorna appears on the screen]
Lorna: I'm really passionate about creating a space where everybody can come and feel safe, have access to information to inform them in the next steps that they want to take.
[Carys appears on the screen]
Carys: And I really want to emphasize that there's no threshold to accessing our support. It could be anything that you've experienced. If it's made you feel uncomfortable, then please do come in, come and meet with us.
[Charlotte appears on the screen]
Charlotte: My hope for the Harassment Misconduct team is that we can provide a judgment-free space for students and postgraduate researchers to access support and make an informed choice about what they would like to do next, feeling fully believed, fully empowered and fully supported through their next steps.
[Writing appears on the screen that reads ‘Let’s take the next step together’.]
