Formal reporting routes

For confidential support with understanding and making a formal report of harassment, sexual misconduct or any other form of inappropriate behaviour, email the Harassment and Misconduct team at reportandsupport@leeds.ac.uk.

They can advise you on the formal reporting options both on and off campus and support you through the process.

Making a formal report to the University

We encourage you raise concerns of bullying, harassment or sexual misconduct under the Student Policy on Preventing and Addressing Bullying, Harassment and Sexual Misconduct (PDF) regardless of how or where the behaviour occurred, and the medium used.

You can make a formal complaint to the University through the Student Complaints Procedure.

Before you do this, we recommend you approach a member of staff in the relevant school or service. There are often steps that can be taken locally to resolve matters. If you are unsure who to contact, email the Harassment and Misconduct team at reportandsupport@leeds.ac.uk. They can identify the most appropriate member of staff to handle the complaint formally and can help you contact them.

If you are unsatisfied with the local response or you feel unable to contact the relevant school or service, you should submit your complaint to the Student Cases team. You should use the Student Complaint Form on the Student Complaints Procedure page to write your complaint and email it to the Student Cases team at studentcomplaints@leeds.ac.uk.

Through the University's Student Complaints Procedure, the Student Cases teamy aim to investigate and resolve – effectively, fairly and transparently – any concern raised by a registered student or postgraduate researcher.

If you need further information or guidance on making a formal reports to the University, you can email the Student Cases team at studentcases@leeds.ac.uk. Alternatively, you can book an appointment with the Harassment and Misconduct team by completing a named disclosure form or emailing the Harassment and Misconduct team at reportandsupport@leeds.ac.uk

Reporting to the police

You can also report incidents of a criminal nature to the police:

Other external reporting routes

There are several external reporting routes you can use to share that you have experienced or witnessed something of concern.

Reporting sexual violence

Sexual assault referral centres (SARCs) offer medical, practical and emotional support to victim-survivors of sexual violence. They are located across the country and available for everyone, regardless of gender, age, the type of incident, or when it happened.

If you are considering formally reporting to the police, a SARC can arrange for you to speak to a specially trained police officer. They will explain the next steps to you.

Forensic medical examinations can be arranged, even if you have decided if you want to report the assault.

Our local SARC is the Hazlehurst Centre, located in Morley. You can phone the Hazelhurst Centre on +44(0)330 223 0099. Support is available 24 hours a day.
