Summer attendance monitoring for postgraduate degree Student visa holders
Understand how summer attendance monitoring works for postgraduate degree Student visa holders.
Why your attendance will be monitored
Regular attendance is a requirement of your Student visa.
The University is required to monitor attendance and follow up on missed check-ins as part of its Student visa sponsorship responsibilities. Continued non-attendance may need to be reported to UK Visas and Immigration.
You must complete the required check-ins during the scheduled weeks or ensure that any absence is formally authorised.
“Attendance Monitoring Check-in” will appear in your UniLeeds app timetable during each monitoring week.
Dates when you need to check in
Attendance monitoring weeks run from Monday to Friday. You must complete one on-campus check-in between 9am–5pm during each of the following monitoring weeks:
- 22 June–26 June
- 13 July–17 July
- 3 August–7 August
- 24 August–28 August
Check-ins completed outside these weeks will not count toward your attendance record.
If you have any other timetabled sessions during the summer period, you should continue to check in to those as normal.
How to check in
To check in, you must:
- scan a QR code at any Student Information Point (SIP), or
- check in during a timetabled teaching session taking place during the monitoring week.
Remote web check-ins are not valid and will not be accepted.
You may use any of the following SIP locations:
- Parkinson Building
- Maurice Keyworth Building
- Worsley Building
- Marjorie and Arnold Ziff Building
- School of Chemical and Process Engineering
These locations are not assigned to specific schools or courses. You may choose a different location each week.
You are still required to complete a check-in during the scheduled monitoring weeks, even if:
- your work is mainly independent or project-based
- you have limited taught activity
- you have flexible attendance agreements
- you are primarily engaged in self-directed study.
If you can’t complete your check-in
If you can’t come to campus
If you are unable to attend campus during a scheduled monitoring week, you must submit an absence request via Minerva as normal. Unauthorised travel or working away from Leeds may affect your attendance record and Student visa compliance.
If your check-in fails
If you have problems scanning the QR code, speak to the Student Information Service Advisor at the check-in point for help recording your attendance.
If you miss a monitoring week
Missing a scheduled monitoring week without an authorised reason may result in follow-up contact from your school. Multiple missed check-ins may also result in escalation through the University’s attendance monitoring processes.
The University’s approach is supportive, and early contact is intended to help identify any issues and offer assistance where needed.
If you have questions or need support
If you need support or have questions, contact your School Student Education and Experience team as early as possible.
