Study abroad withdrawal policy
If you secure a place on the 2025/26 study abroad programme and decide to withdraw after Friday 7 March 2025, but before starting your placement, you may be charged a fee.
This policy is in place to encourage full engagement with our processes and to minimise late withdrawals, as these often prevent other eligible students from participating.
This policy applies to open exchange, subject-based exchange, and Horizon exchange destinations. To withdraw, you must submit a written request via email to the Global Opportunities Team. Please note that all withdrawals are final and cannot be reversed.
Exceptional circumstances that would normally waive the withdrawal fee include:
- Personal illness that prevents travel.
- Health concerns related to travelling to the destination country.
- Significant changes in circumstances occurring between your application date and the withdrawal date.
- Withdrawal for academic reasons, such as your School withdrawing support due to unsatisfactory performance or resits scheduled in August preventing attendance.
- War or civil unrest in the destination country.
- Travel restrictions that inhibit your ability to travel to the destination country.
