Find out what a University of Leeds student card can do for you and how to collect one.
Your student card remains property of the University. Please look after it and keep it safe until you leave the University.
What does a student card do?
Your student card:
- identifies you as a student of the University of Leeds
- works as your University Library Card - you need it to enter Library buildings and borrow books
- provides you with access to computing facilities
- allows you to use Sport and Physical Activity facilities (if you're a member)
- is used as official ID for University examinations
Collecting your new student card will happen on campus, after you have completed your remote identity check. Once you have completed your remote identity check you will be sent an email with instructions of how to collect your student card.
If you are an international student and need to collect your Biometric Residence Permit (BRP) from the University, your appointment will cover both student card and BRP collection.
Unfortunately we’re currently unable to replace lost or stolen cards. We will update this webpage when we are able to offer this service again.
If the date on your student card is in the past, you can still use it, as long as you are still a currently registered student. Your student card will last for the duration of your current course at the University, regardless of the expiry date on the card (if present). For example, if you're a current student whose course has been extended (e.g. students who have intercalated, taken a year abroad or in industry) and your student card has expired, your card will still work. However, you will also be able to replace expired cards toward the end of 2020 when the process has been finalised, taking into account social distancing measures.
If you are starting a new course then you are classed as a new student and will need to follow the guidance above for new students to collect a new card.
If a student card is used fraudulently, you'll be subject to action under the University Disciplinary Procedure. This might not only involve you, but also anyone you've lent it to if this can be proved.
Student card photos
You may be required to upload a passport style photo online for your student card, ready for when you go to collect the student card at your appointment. If the photo you upload does not meet University requirements, the University the staff will take your photograph during your appointment.
