Parking and venue accessibility
For students and guests attending graduation on campus, we have options for Blue Badge parking and information about accessibility of our venues.
Parking at graduation
If travelling to graduation by car, you can park for free at the Cinder Moor car park on Woodhouse Lane, which is open from 8am on weekdays 11-19 December 2024. This car park is locked at 7pm. It is located directly opposite Woodhouse Moor Park (not the multi-storey nearer Leeds City Centre). The postcode for navigation is LS6 2NA. It is approximately a 20 minute walk to the University campus. Please take this into consideration and plan ahead to allow time to get to the campus. We recommend you drop off any guests with mobility constraints at the main entrance before heading to a car park.
Automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) is in operation in our campus car parks. Note that public car parking on campus is not available between 7am and 5pm on weekdays. We recommend you use the car park at Cinder Moor instead. Other chargeable parking is available in Leeds City Centre.
If you are planning to attend a Relaxed Graduation day, other car parking arrangements are in place. For this date, we will contact attendees directly with more information before the day.
Parking for Blue Badge holders
Blue Badge holders can park for free on campus. The University operates an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system so it is important to inform us in advance if you require blue badge parking. You will need to register your vehicle (form available from 14 October until 29 November) with us in advance, and also display the blue badge in the vehicle on the day.
We block reserve the bays outside the Great Hall, with access via University Road. There are also blue badge bays outside the Michael Sadler Building and around campus. You can find a map of parking locations here.
Venue accessibility
The University campus is fully accessible. The two main areas you will need to access for graduation, the Parkinson Building and the Great Hall, both have lift and wheelchair access. The Great Hall is also fitted with an induction loop system.
Graduation ceremonies are held on the first floor of the Great Hall, accessible via a lift. There will be portering staff in the Hall to offer assistance. Relaxed Graduation will also take place in the Great Hall building.
We have an excellent team on hand on the day who can offer assistance to your guests into the Hall via the lift and provide a seat near the exit.
Disabled students taking part in the ceremony
If you are unable to use the steps to the stage, or do not wish to, there is a platform lift available. You also have the option not to go on stage, in which case the Presiding Officer will come down to you. If you would like to arrange this or have any other special requirements you would like us to accommodate please email the Graduation team or complete the online form (form available from 14 October until 29 November) and someone from our team will be in touch to go through what we are doing to accommodate this for you. There are different arrangements in place for Relaxed Graduation days.
You may find it useful to watch a webcast of a previous ceremony.
Even if you're excited about your graduation day, we know that can be an overwhelming experience. If you're someone who uses communication cards to help express yourself during periods of overwhelm, you can download our graduation-specific cards.
