Fake messages through Facebook about accommodation

We are aware that a number of students have received messages through Facebook about University accommodation. Please ignore these fraudulent messages. They have not been sent by the University or by any official account.

These messages have been sent by a fake profile/page which may appear to come from Welfare Officer, Matt Port’s Facebook Page. We’re working with authorities to investigate this and resolve this.

Please be aware that the University or the LUU will not ask for payments or bank details over social media.

If you’re worried or suspect you’ve been contacted by the fake Matt Port over Facebook, please contact the LUU’s Help and Support Team, advice@LUU.leeds.ac.uk, 0113 3801290.

The fraudulent activity in particular targeted new students surrounding their accommodation, if you’re concerned about your University Accommodation for 2018/19 please contact the Accommodation Team, accom@leeds.ac.uk, 0370 1200189.

If you’re concerned about Digital Security Becky Hurrell is our campus police officer and you can contact her direct R.Hurrell@leeds.ac.uk

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time students have been targeted with fraudulent, fake or scam claims. Further advice about frauds and scams is available here.
