Programmes in Africa and the Middle East
Rothberg International Summer School (RIS), The Hebrew University of Jerusalem
RIS at Hebrew University offers a wide array of short-term courses and programs with a focus on social and political sciences, Israel and the Middle East, languages, religion, fine and performing arts, business and legal studies, and STEM. Students can choose courses from the July and August sessions, as well as elect to participate in archaeological field schools. University of Cape Town – Global Academy – Afropolitanism, Social Justice and Entrepreneurship
The Global Academy is specifically designed to present comprehensive insights into South Africa history, politics and culture, as well as discuss major issues facing the country, Africa and the world today. Sustainable Water Management uses an interdisciplinary approach to critically engage with the environmental, technical, socio- cultural, economic and political challenges of water demand, supply and treatment to create an understanding of the role of water in society and in sustaining livelihoods. Fudan University – Fudan International Summer Session
Fudan University was established in Shanghai in 1905 and is consistently ranked in the top three universities in China. The International Summer Session provides a study and cultural experience to students from all over the world, aolongside home students from Fudan University. There are 26 content courses in History and Culture, Society and Politics, Business and Economy, Science and Tecnology and Law. In addition historical and cultural visits are offered.
The Chinese module was interesting and allowed me to get by when speaking with locals. The Belt and Road Initiative was exciting and was taught by a professor who had a great knowledge about the project. He had done fieldwork in many places where the project is being implemented. - Carlos, 2019

Summer School @ Fudan SOE 2022' is held by the School of Economics of Fudan University, providing 16 courses taught in English and covering economics, finance, marketing, data science and social culture to give you an enriching summer. Wuhan University – Luojia International Summer Program
Luojia International Summer Program is packaged in two exciting weeks. The theme is ‘Understanding China: Past and Present’ and aims to build an international exchange platform to help international students know more about China and Wuhan University. Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University (XJTLU) – Chinese Language Summer School
Spend four weeks learning Chinese language (Mandarin) while experiencing one of the world’s most important economies. Levels available include absolute beginner and elementary who want to kick start or refresh their learning. The programme will be made up of 40 hours of live teaching as well as follow-up exercises and activities.You will also have the opportunity to try out Chinese handicraft, Chinese Kungfum and learn traditional Chinese characters. Please note there are limited exchange places available.

Zhejiang University – Innovation and Entrepreneurship Global Summer Programme
Founded in 1897, Zhejiang University is one of China’s oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education. The theme of the programme is ‘Embrace Digital World’. The program comprises mini-lectures and virtual cultural/company visits. Working with peers through facilitated group discussions, you will be tasked with creating a business initiative to fine-tune the ideas you are itching to turn into reality. Chinese University of Hong Kong – CUHK International Summer School
The CUHK International Summer School (ISS) provides students with an opportunity to combine high-quality learning with an unforgettable summer experience. Each summer the programme offers around 20 courses, encompassing business and finance, China studies, Chinese language (Putonghua and Cantonese), environmental, science and techology, society and communication studies.
Although we had online classes this year, I still had a very good student experience and learned a lot about Hong Kong culture. Hong Kong Polytechnic University – PolyU International Summer School
The PolyU summer school offers a truly international study abroad experience where you will study with PolyU students as well as students from around the world. PolyU offer a diversified range of subjects from three thematic learning tracks in 'Chinese language, culture and society', 'Design innovation and technology' and 'Business, entrepreneurship and global leadership’. There are optional enrichment activities organised as part of the programme, such as Chinese Tea Brewing and Calligraphy, martial arts, and cooking.

Akita University – Japanese Language Summer Course
The summer programme is a six-week, intensive Japanese language course. Participants can take elementary courses taught by experienced Japanese instructors to hone their Japanese language skills in a small class environment. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived. Doshisha Women's College – Japanese Language Immersion Course
The program offers introductory Japanese language courses to students whose first language is not Japanese. Throughout the course, students have full access to all the facilities available on campus. In addition to studying in the classroom, students can also experience multiple field trips during the course, which include tours of Kyoto. International Christian University (ICU) – Summer Courses in Japanese
The Summer Courses in Japanese (SCJ) at the ICU is an intensive six-week programme. Study intensively online with dedicated teachers in a world class program, and ahre your love for Japanese with students from around the world. Classes are kept as small as possible and a balance of all the language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing – is taught at each of the seven levels/classes. Kobe Gakuin University – Japanese Language and Culture Program
The Japanese Language and Culture Program introduces aspects of Japanese culture including language and offers various opportunities to interact with students from Kobe Gakuin University. This is your chance to improve your Japanese proficiency and deepen understanding of both traditional and various aspects of contemporary Japan by taking classes and going on field trips to learn about Japanese history, culture, and society. Nanzan University – CJS Summer Japanese Program
Based in the city of Nagoya, itself located in the heart of Japan, the Centre for Japanese Studies (CJS) has been a renowned leader in the field of Japanese language education for more than 40 years. They offer an intensive summer program designed for students who want to improve their Japanese. Students can join a club or visit famous cultural spots around Nagoya such as Japanese gardens and the Toyota Museum, and attend events such as the Summer Grand Sumo Tournament. Ritsumeikan University – Ritsumeikan Summer Japanese Program
The Ritsumeikan Summer Japanese Program (RSJP) is designed for undergraduate or postgraduate students with minimal knowledge of the Japanese language, providing a comprehensive introduction to Japanese language and culture. There are six courses on the RSJP programme during the summer break which students can attend either in person or online. Waseda University – Waseda Summer Session
Waseda Summer Session is a four-week programme during which you can take part in a variety of courses including Japanese business, marketing, culture, history, literature, art, disability studies and politics in the context of Japan and Asia. The courses are taught in English by experienced faculty members from Waseda and visiting professors from partner institutions. Hanyang University – Hanyang International Summer School
Hanyang International Summer School (Seoul, South Korea) balances academic courses with cultural immersion and students can have a unique experience of Korean culture. Build your own programme of courses from a wide range taught in English. Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology – KAIST International Summer School
Based in Daejeon, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a research intensive university and is in the top 50 universities in the world. Since its establishment in 2007, KAIST International Summer School (KISS) has worked faithfully to serve as a hub for cultural and academic exchange between students from all over the world. Korea University – Korea University International Summer Campus
Spend six weeks studying at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea as part of their international summer campus (ISC). National Chengchi University – Chinese Language Centre Summer Term
The centre’s Chinese courses are offered over 12 weeks in summer, comprising of 15 hours of class per week. You will receive teaching by professional senior Chinese teachers in small clases, balancing the development of listening, speaking, reading and writing. In addition to language learning classes, there are also traditional culture classes such as calligraphy, seal cutting, Chinese knots, sachets, and do-it-yourself Taiwanese snacks classes. National Sun Yat-sen University - Summer Intensive Mandarin Programme
All classes at the CLC are conducted in Chinese. The programme focuses on cultivating students’ basic language proficiency which includes listening, speaking, reading and writing. On the shores of one of Austria’s most scenic lakes. Lake Wolfgang, in the Salzkammergut region, the University is bordered by dramatic peaks and the area has excellent sports and recreational facilities. Leuven is Belgium’s largest higher education institution and is considered to be one of the most prestigious research universities in Europe. Bordeaux Montaigne University – DEFLE Summer School Programme
The DEFLE department offers an intensive course of French as a Foreign Language in July. You will learn French with teachers who are all specialists in teaching French as a Foreign Language (FLE), and who base their teaching on the most recent discussions in education and didactics. You will have the opportunity to participate in artistic workshops and showcase your creative talents. A range of cultural activities and excursions is also offered to students, which may include tours of Bordeaux and Arcachon, museum visits and an introduction to wine tasting. ESSCA School of Management – ESSCA Summer Programme (Angers or Paris)
The Angers Summer Programme is open to all ESSCA’s exchange partners. It begins in the beautiful Loire valley city of Angers, then moves to Brussels for several days, with the final week in Paris. It is specially designed for students of business and management, political sciences and international relations but applications submitted by students from other disciplines may also be considered. The four-week Paris Summer Programme offers three course pairings in one of the world’s most vibrant cities. Modules include ‘International Luxury Brand Marketing & International Business Management’, ‘Business Intelligence and Strategy & Digital Culture, Innovation and New Market’, and ‘Theory and Research in Organisation Communication & Cross-cultural Communication and French Awareness’. Université Catholique de Lille – LILLE European Summer Programme (ESP2)
Located in northern France, Lille is ideally placed at a crossroads of Europe, with quick access by train to the capital cities of Paris, Brussels, and London. The European Summer Program is taught in English and offers the opportunity to experience French culture first-hand. Courses cover various disciplines that aim to provide both a theoretical background and practical learning through site visits and hands-on activities. National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon (INSA) – ENERG’INSA
This summer school is suitable for Science and Engineering students. You will study two modules in ‘Energy Transition and Renewable Production’ and ‘French Language, Cross Cultural Communication, Industry and Society’. Excursions and social activities usually include day-trips to the Alps (Annecy and Mont-Blanc), a cooking class, dinner in a local restaurant, industrial and lab visits and orienteering in the city centre. Sciences Po Aix – Immersion en Provence

Toulouse Business School – TBS Summer School Programmes
TBS Summer School programs offer a wide choice of business and management courses at bachelor and master levels while you get the chance to discover Europe and live a unique international and multicultural experience. While in Toulouse, Barcelona and/or Ljubljana, students will meet with companies to understand how business is done in Europe. Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3 – French Summer School
The French Summer School at Lyon 3 is a 6-week program which allows students to improve their level of French while discovering the city of Lyon. Choosing Jean Moulin Lyon 3 University means access to high quality education and research. University Paul Valery Montpellier 3 – Institute of French Studies for Foreign Learners (IEFE) Summer Schools
The summer school offers courses in French language and culture that are aimed at both beginners and those wishing to improve their practice of the French language. Sessions of two weeks each are offered with 40 hours of classes each week meaning there is plenty of time to explore the regional and urban heritage, and take part in social activities such as wine heritage and a tour of Nîmes. Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg – Freiburg Intensive German Language Courses
Albert-Ludwigs-Universität invites students to take part in its Intensive German Language courses which it has been offering to international students for over 100 years. Humboldt-Universität is one of the leading higher educational institutions in Germany. Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität München – Munich International Summer University (MISU)
MISU offers two strands, German Language Courses and the Summer Academies. The German language Courses are aimed at all levels. Each course lasts for about four weeks and is usually offered in August. The courses take place in small groups and are complemented by cultural activities. The Summer Academies are short-term courses and research programs that cover natural sciences, social sciences, economics, law and medicine. There are programs for all levels of study. Utrecht University – Summer School Utrecht
The Utrecht Summer School offers a broad selection of over 200 summer courses in various disciplines from Art & Music to Engineering & Technology, all taught in English. In addition to the study programme the programme includes city trips through the Netherlands, night canoeing through the canals of downtown Utrecht, a weekly social gathering in the form of a pub quiz or scavenger hunt, trips to famous museums and an excursion to the Dutch dikes and delta works. The communication and organisation at the Utrecht University was at a high standard. They were communicative and swiftly responded to all my concerns. This course has been specially designed for so-called heritage speakers, those who through family interaction were raised in a country with a non-Spanish language but in an environment of great cultural connection with Spanish. The Universidad Pontificia Comillas, founded in 1890, is one of Spain's most prestigious private jesuit universities. The UFMG Summer School on Brazilian Studies intends to give students from all over the world an understanding of key aspects of Brazil from distinct perspectives. Over two weeks of intense learning, meetings will cover the underpinnings of Brazilian politics, history, foreign relations, geography, law, economy, arts and culture.
