University of Leeds students have opportunities to attend subsidised short programmes in Europe, Asia and Latin America.
Applications have now closed for subsidised summer 2019 opportunities.
The Study Abroad organisation on Minerva is one of your most important resources when checking your eligibility to apply and researching your options. Here you will also find details of our 101 sessions, which we advise all students thinking about applying to attend. Please note that to benefit from one of these subsidised places, you must apply through the Study Abroad Office at the University of Leeds. A link to the online application form is available on the Study Abroad Office organisation on Minerva. How to enrol:

Programmes in Europe
AU Summer University, Aarhus University, Denmark
The programme at AU Summer University consists of a broad variety of courses, taught in English within the fields of: Business Economics and Management, Communication, Culture and Society, Health, Law, Psychology, Science and Technology. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived. Aarhus University is among the top 100 universities in the world. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

International Summer University Programme, Copenhagen Business School
Join ISUP, one of the Europes largest and oldest summer programmes, and experience the amazing spirit of wonderful Copenhagen and exciting courses taught by brilliant faculty. Be inspired by the international environment and other participants from over 50 countries. Priority for places will be given to students from LUBS. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

Summer University DTU, Technical University of Denmark, Denmark
Summer University DTU is an opportunity for students to take courses over the summer in July or August for three weeks. Summer University DTU offers about 100 different courses. The courses can be found in the course database (search on 'Summer University' for details on courses in July, and August). At DTU, you are never more than 15 km away from Copenhagen - one of Europes most celebrated and progressive capitals, where modern 21st-century architecture blends effortlessly with the cobblestoned streets of the Middle Ages.

Helsinki Summer School, University of Helsinki, Finland
Helsinki Summer School offers courses that cover a wide range of academic fields and multidisciplinary topics. The courses are all taught in English and are designed to challenge and inspire you in a learning environment that promotes equality. Courses are offered in the following areas: Environmental, Food and Biological Sciences, Health Sciences, Humanities and Social Sciences and Natural Sciences. A wide range of social events to help students get to know their colleagues and Finland better are included in the programme. Italian Language Programme, University of Bergamo, Italy
CIS (the Centre of Italian for Foreigners) at the University of Bergamo has been organising Italian language and culture courses for foreigners since 1978. Bergamo is within easy reach of the Italian lakes such as Garda and also Milan. The programme includes 25 hours of tuition per week and cultural activities and excursions are also offered during the programme. Successful applicants will receive a £500 Santander scholarship to help pay for a portion of the programme fee. Priority for places will be given to students who are not studying Italian language as part of a single or joint honours degree at Leeds and have been selected to spend a year studying abroad in an Italian speaking country next year.

French Language and Culture, Le Mans Université, France
Le Mans Université is a multidisciplinary institution founded in 1977 and based in the city of Le Mans. The four week summer programme includes 99 hours of French language and culture tuition. Trips are also offered as part of the programme, such as visits to Le Mont Saint-Michel, Les Châteaux de la Loire and company visits. Successful applicants will receive a £500 Santander scholarship to help pay for a portion of the programme fee. Priority for places will be given to students who are not studying French language as part of a single or joint honours degree at Leeds and have been selected to spend a year studying abroad in a French speaking country next year.

INNOV@INSA Lyon, National Institute of Applied Sciences of Lyon, France
This summer school is suitable for Science and Engineering students. You will study two modules on the summer school:
1. French Language, Cross Cultural Communication, Industry and Society
2. Management and Innovation in Europe
Excursions and social activities includes day-trips to the Alps (Annecy and Mont-Blanc), a cooking class, dinner in a local restaurant, industrial and lab visits and orienteering in the city centre.

German language and culture, Berlin School of Economics and Law, Germany
Berlin School of Economics and Law is offering places for Leeds students on a tuition-waiver basis to take part in their international summer school. Participants in the summer school will follow an intensive three-week programme of German language at beginners or advanced beginners level only. The summer school also includes cultural activities and a social programme. Priority for places will be given to students who are not studying German language as part of a single or joint honours degree at Leeds and have been selected to spend a year studying abroad in a German speaking country next year.

Bayreuth Summer University for Intercultural German Studies, Bayreuth University, Germany
The Bayreuth Summer University offers intensive language courses (from beginners to advanced) which take place in the mornings. In the afternoon, the programme continues with communication courses or specialised courses (for intermediate level and above). For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived. Priority for places will be given to students who are not studying German language as part of a single or joint honours degree at Leeds and have been selected to spend a year studying abroad in a German speaking country next year.

Bayreuth International Summer School, Bayreuth University, Germany
Choose one from six intensive courses which are offered as part of the summer school: Economics & Management, African Studies, Public Health & Environment, Energy & Climate, Polymer Science & Engineering and International Comparative Law. The courses are taught in English by international guest lecturers and for selected Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived (priority for places will be given to students from LUBS).

Doing Business in Europe, European Business School, Oestrich-Winkel, Germany
This innovative three week programme allows students to study economic and political issues in European business, European integration and monetary unification, corporate governance and leadership in European businesses, among other topics. This programme is ideally suited for students studying business subjects and LUBS students have priority. Students of economics, law, accounting or related fields may also apply. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

Spanish language and culture, Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, Spain
The summer programme in Salamanca includes four weeks of Spanish language tuition at the Universidad Pontificia de Salamanca, full-board accommodation in a university dormitory and cultural trips and activities. Successful applicants will receive a £500 Santander scholarship to help pay for a portion of the programme fee. Programmes in Latin America
UDLAP Summer Exchange Programme, Puebla, Mexico
The Universidad de las Américas Puebla (UDLAP) is one of the most prestigious private universities in Mexico and is located in Cholula, Puebla, 100 kilometers southeast from Mexico City. Their four week Summer Exchange Programme is particularly suitable for intermediate or advanced Spanish learners with Spanish language and Mexican culture modules on offer. There are a very limited number of English-taught courses available. For selected University of Leeds students the programme fee will be waived which includes four weeks tuition, accommodation in dormitories and breakfast and lunch (Monday - Friday only).

Summer School on Brazilian Studies - Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais, Brazil
The UFMG Summer School on Brazilian Studies intends to give students from all over the world an understanding of key aspects of Brazil from distinct perspectives. Over two weeks of intense learning, meetings will cover the underpinnings of Brazilian politics, history, foreign relations, geography, law, economy, arts and culture. Portuguese classes are also included. The Summer School takes place at UFMGs main campus in Belo Horizonte the capital city of Brazils federal state of Minas Gerais. Field trips to places of historical and artistic relevance (Ouro Preto and Inhotim) are included in the programme.

Programmes in Asia
Chinese Language Summer School, Xi'an Jiaotong - Liverpool University, China
Spend two, four or six weeks learning Chinese language (Mandarin) while experiencing one of the worlds most important economies. Levels available include absolute beginner, elementary, low intermediate, high intermediate and advanced. Each week will be comprised of 15 hours of classroom-based language lessons and four hours of cultural understanding lessons. You will also have the opportunity to try out Chinese martial arts, calligraphy, paper cutting, Chinese cooking, traditional Chinese costumes and embroidery.

This programme offers an insight into the world's largest consumer market and second largest economy. The Doing Business in a Changing China Summer School will give you firsthand business experience in China. Wuhan University International Summer Programme, China
This summer programme offers you the opportunity to study at Wuhan University, is one of the most prestigious universities in China. Tuition and housing costs will be waived for successful applicants nominated by the Leeds Study Abroad Office. The Luojia International Summer Program offers students the chance to study a two-week exciting programme in Wuhan University and investigate a four-day fascinating programme in other cities. So then, students will have the opportunity to gain a valuable and comprehensive insight into the innovation and development of China.

International Summer Session, Fudan University, China
Fudan University was established in Shanghai in 1905 and is consistently ranked in the top three universities in China. The International Summer Session provides a study and cultural experience to students from all over the world. There are 18 content courses, three Chinese language courses at different levels and two Physical Education courses on offer. In addition historical and cultural visits are offered. The content courses will cover a range of topics in History and Culture, Society and Politics, Business and Economy, and Science and Technology. ZJU Entrepreneurship in China International Summer School, Zhejiang University, China
Founded in 1897, Zhejiang University is one of Chinas oldest and most prestigious institutions of higher education. The University is located in Hangzhou, a city with a rich culture and heritage along the southeast coast of China, which is about 50-minute travel away from Shanghai by high-speed train. Hangzhou is the capital and largest city of Zhejiang Province, which is well known in China for its vibrant private economy, entrepreneurship and innovation. At the International Summer School you can learn about doing business in China from a cultural and economic perspective, as well as Chinese entrepreneurship and some basic Chinese language. You will also have the opportunity to visit various companies, meet entrepreneurs and undertake a Business Project. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived. Priority for places will be given to students from LUBS.

Antai Global Summer School, Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China
Shanghai Jiao Tong University (China) is offering places on its Antai Global Summer School to selected students from the University of Leeds. Priority for places will be given to students from LUBS. For successful applicants, the tuition fee will be waived. The program provides enriched academic learning in a top Chinese university as well as valuable cultural experience in one of the most vibrant cities in China. The Summer School combines a variety of curricular and extra-curricular activities including: lectures, case study, corporate seminars, company visits, city sightseeing and cultural events.

East China University of Politics and Law, Shanghai, China
The summer school combines both the study of Chinese law and excursions in Shanghai and to local areas. All teaching will be in English. It will be a truly rewarding experience in one of Asias most exciting cities for any student who wants to know more Chinese law and culture. Students will be able to take intensive courses on the Chinese legal system, pay visits to local law institutions and experience Chinese culture in various ways. Priority for places will be given to students from the School of Law who have no, or limited experience of Chinese culture. Tuition costs will be waived for successful applicants nominated by the Leeds Study Abroad Office.

CUHK International Summer School, Hong Kong
The CUHK International Summer School (ISS) provides students with an opportunity to combine high-quality learning with an unforgettable summer experience. Each summer the July Session of ISS offers some 20 courses, encompassing business, China studies, Chinese medicine, engineering, environmental studies, humanities and social science, in addition to language (Putonghua and Cantonese). For selected students the tuition fee will be waived.

The CUHK International Summer School (ISS) provides students with an opportunity to combine high-quality learning with an unforgettable summer experience. The August Session of ISS provides students with an opportunity to learn Putonghua and acquire pragmatic competence through lessons and immersion activities. It embraces language learning, cultural immersion and entertainment, and offers a remarkable experience for non-native Chinese learners. For selected students the tuition fee will be waived.

HKUST International Summer Exchange Programme, Hong Kong
This summer Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is offering Leeds students the opportunity to take part in their International Summer Exchange Programme and study one of the top ranked universities in Asia. This programme is suitable for Business, Science and Engineering students. Please note this programme is not open to students currently in their first year at Leeds. Participants in the summer school build their own programme of modules from a huge range of options taught in English. Selected Leeds students will register as exchange students at HKUST and no tuition fee will be charged.

HKBU Summer Programme, Hong Kong Baptist University, Hong Kong
At the HKBU Summer Programme there are more than 30 English-taught courses available in the areas of Business, Communication, Economics, English, Film, Finance, History, Journalism, Marketing, Religion, Science and Sociology. Alongside the courses, students can enjoy business visits and cultural activities built into the programme. Also included is a cultural visit such as a field trip to Macau. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

International Summer School, Hong Kong Polytechnic University
The PolyU summer school offers a truly international study abroad experience where you will study with PolyU students as well as students from around the world. You will attend session one or session two of the summer school and will choose from a range of courses taught in English. Courses are offered in three subject areas: 'Chinese language, culture and society', 'design innovation and technology' and 'business, entrepreneurship and global leadership'. There are optional field trips organised as part of the programme for example, to Taiwan or Xian. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

Korea University international summer campus, Seoul, South Korea
Spend six weeks studying at Korea University in Seoul, South Korea as part of their international summer campus (ISC). The ISC offers students the chance to put together their own programme of modules at a top Korean University, with a huge range of subjects taught in English available, including Korean culture, as well as the opportunity to study Korean language. Cultural activites and trips are included in the programme. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

Hanyang International Summer School, Seoul, South Korea
Hanyang International Summer School (Seoul, South Korea) balances academic courses with cultural immersion and students can have a unique experience of Korean culture. Build your own programme of courses from a wide range taught in English. Cultural activities and field trips are included in the programme such as a city tour, a boat cruise and the Boryeong Mud Festival. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived.

Yonsei International Summer School, Seoul, South Korea
Yonsei International Summer School (YISS) opened its doors in 1985 and since then, YISS has become an integral part of campus life based on a unique blend of Korean and global cultures. YISS offers a wide range of courses taught in English, including the arts, culture, humanities, Asian and Korean studies, international politics and economics, global management, science and technology and environmental studies. For selected students the tuition fee will be waived.

KAIST International Summer School, Daejeon, South Korea
Based in Daejeon, Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) is a research intensive university and is in the top 50 universities in the world. Since its establishment in 2007, KAIST International Summer School (KISS) has worked faithfully to serve as a hub for cultural and academic exchange between students from all over the world. You will choose two courses from a range taught in English and subjects include engineering, design, art and sciences. Beginners Korean is also available. Summer Session in East Asian Studies and Japanese Language, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan
This program provides participants with opportunities to take part in an East Asian studies programme and an intensive Japanese language programme. You will attend session one or session two of the summer school and will study English-taught subject based modules, Japanese language or a combination of the two. Subject based modules include business, history, culture, theatre, pop culture, sustainability and politics. For successful applicants, the tuition fee will be waived.

Japanese Language Summer Course, Akita University, Japan
The summer programme is a six-week, intensive Japanese language course. Participants can take elementary courses taught by experienced Japanese instructors to hone their Japanese language skills in a small class environment. For selected University of Leeds students the tuition fee will be waived. Akita International University is located in a rural area, ideal for experiencing traditional Japanese culture and rich natural beauty.
