Eligibility and residency criteria
Find out the eligibility and residency criteria for the Leeds Hardship Fund (LHF).
You must fit the residency criteria for a maintenance loan from the Student Loans Company. To apply you must have completed online registration at the University of Leeds, or be an external student or have suspended your studies.
Students on a Degree Apprenticeship programme are not eligible to apply to the LHF even if the residency criteria are met.
You must have applied for, and received, the first instalment of either a student loan or an NHS bursary for the current academic year. You must have accepted your full entitled amount.
Full-time undergraduates with previous study
If your Student Loans Company funding is reduced due to previous study you will need to show that you had enough funds and/or income at the start of the course to cover all fees and living costs, and that you have applied for all available funding. You must be registered (or external or suspended).
Postgraduates (Taught and Research)
You must fit the residency criteria for maintenance funding from the Student Loans Company. Normally, this will mean you will be home-rated for fees and have had a maintenance loan whist an undergraduate. You must be registered (or suspended).
You will need to show that you had enough funds or income at the start of the course to cover all your fees and living costs. If eligible, you must have applied for the Postgraduate Loan (Masters students).
You must fit the residency criteria for maintenance funding from the Student Loans Company. Normally this will be indicated by your Tuition Fee Loan assessment.
You must have applied for, and received, the Part-time Fee and Course Grant (pre-2012 starters) or the Tuition Fee Loan (2012-2017 starters) or the Maintenance Loan (students starting a course in 2018/19). If you are ineligible for grants or loans because of previous study, you are unlikely to be considered for a LHF award.
Part-time undergraduates may apply for help with childcare costs, either with or without a standard LHF application.
