How to complete your identity check and get a student ID card

If you're a new student, you'll need to complete an identity check. You can collect your student ID card at the same time. Find out where to go and what to bring.

Some courses are exempt from identity checks, however if you are receiving a Student Loan you will need to complete an identity check in order to receive your funding.

What to bring

International students:

  • passport and immigration permission documents
  • BRP certificate/BRP collection email (if needed)
  • "registration certificate" page of online registration or student ID number*

British students:

  • passport
  • "registration certificate" page of online registration or student ID number*

EEA students:

  • passport or national identity card
  • "registration certificate" page of online registration or student ID number*

You can find out more about the above documents on our what you'll need to register page

*If you haven't completed online registration, you can still complete your identity check and collect a student ID card. You will need the identification documents listed above and your nine digit student ID number (instead of your "registration certificate" page). You will be issued with a reminder that you have not yet completed registration during your appointment.

Where to go

Once you have the relevant documents, please go to the counter in the Student Services Centre in the Marjorie and Arnold Ziff building

The main counter is open from 09:00-17:00 on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and 10:00-17:00 on Wednesday. There is no need to book an appointment.

Student ID card

You will be able collect your student ID card in the same location when you complete your identity check. Staff will take a photo of you, and your student ID card will be printed within a few minutes.

If you need to collect a BRP at the University, this happens at the same location.

Students not based on campus

You can apply for your student ID card and verify your identity online if you are not a campus-based student, or if you are a part time learner.
