Employability and Progression Assistants

The Careers Service Mentoring and Widening Participation Team is dedicated to supporting the employability and progression of students from backgrounds that are underrepresented at the University of Leeds.

The Employability and Progression Assistants (EPAs) offer 1:1 careers and employability support to Plus Programme students. As recent University of Leeds graduates from underrepresented backgrounds, the EPAs know firsthand how overwhelming career planning can feel. That’s why they work to support students in similar circumstances with all things careers related.

 The EPAs:

  • Offer 1:1 careers appointments

  • Design and deliver careers and employability workshops

  • Work closely with other teams to promote exclusive opportunities to targeted cohorts of students

  • Coordinate careers mentoring schemes and group mentoring programmes

  • Organise and support with employability events such as Insight Days

  • Attend Careers Fairs

  • Create a bi-weekly newsletter specifically for Plus Programme students.

Are you a Plus Programme student or graduate looking for support with careers and employability?  The EPAs can support you with:

  • Getting started with career planning or looking for jobs in a specific industry

  • Understanding how the Careers Service can guide and advise you, whatever year of study you are in

  • Learning more about the range of professional skills webinars and in-person workshops taking place throughout the academic year

  • Exploring MyCareer, accessing careers resources, and LinkedIn learning

  • CV, cover letter and application support

  • Signposting you to specialist information and advice such as booking an appointment with a Careers Advisor

  • Our fantastic career mentoring schemes and how you could benefit from a mentor

  • Information about other opportunities such as study aboard, internships, exclusive Leeds placements, Insight Days or volunteering.

All the above support is available to you throughout your studies at Leeds as well as after you graduate. To book a 1:1 appointment with an EPA, please email epa.careers@leeds.ac.uk or complete this form.
