Why learn a language?

Learning another language increases your cultural awareness, enhances your employability and builds confidence to travel, study or work abroad.

Speaking another language gives you an advantage in a global employment market. Many employers place a premium on graduates who are multilingual.

Many students enjoy the challenge of learning a language and the contrast that it has with the rest of their core degree programme. It also helps develop transferable skills in areas such as communications, creative problem solving and cultural sensitivity.

Learning a language offers the option for you to communicate with people from other countries in their own language - increasing your knowledge of other cultures and broadening your horizons.

Learning a new language also opens up new opportunities to work, study or travel abroad. A Languages for All module is excellent preparation for studying abroad or doing an international placement while you’re at Leeds.
