University of Leeds Undergraduate Research Conference

We are delighted to announce the University of Leeds will be hosting its very first Undergraduate Research Conference to showcase the very best in undergraduate research from all disciplines. The conference will take place on the university campus on 15th June 2023

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION HAS NOW CLOSED

Who can apply?

Any undergraduate or master's student enrolled at the University of Leeds can apply to present their undergraduate research.

We welcome students from all undergraduate levels who have undertaken research, whether it be a final year project, research done as part of a module or research undertaken as part of an internship with the university. You need not have completed your research project at the time of application to participate but you will need to be able to submit a clear abstract of your proposed research and expected findings.

Why should I apply?

Participating in this conference is an invaluable opportunity to be a part of the first ever university wide conference celebrating undergraduate research. Not only will you get the chance to showcase your research to those throughout the university and beyond, but you'll also get the chance to meet and learn from the research undertaken by fellow students across other faculties and get a taster of what further research after your undergraduate degree may look like.

You will be fully supported to develop your skills in presenting academic research work and conveying your specialism to a wider audience. This is an extremely valuable skill and very attractive to future employers.

This conference is designed to celebrate the creativity, innovation and diversity of voice within our student body. We particularly welcome and encourage abstract submissions from those from underrepresented backgrounds.

If you feel like you may need extra support with your application or if you have any questions, please email the Undergraduate Research team at ugresearch@leeds.ac.uk

More informartion and guidance on how to write an abstract can be found in the Sway document below.

Undergraduate Research Conference Abstract Submission Guidance

What happens after I apply?

Once abstract submissions have closed, all abstracts will be reviewed by a panel of reviewers. Applicants will either be accepted or given the opportunity to review their abstract for resubmission. All students asked to resubmit will be given specific feedback on areas for improvement. You will be contacted by email with the outcome of your submission before Friday 17th April 2023.

If you are selected to present your research, we will support you in the process of refining your presentation through a series of workshops. We also suggest that you get in contact with your personal tutor or final project supervisor who will be able to give you experiential insight and support you throughout the process.

The conference will be held on the University of Leeds campus on Thursday 15th June 2023. You will be expected to be available on that date if you choose to submit your research to present. Allocation of specific presentation slots will be made available closer to the time.
