Your personal tutor

Every apprentice is assigned a personal tutor to support you with your academic progress.

Your personal tutor will:

  • review your academic progress with you.
  • help you develop independent learning skills.
  • encourage you to reflect on your knowledge, skills, behaviours and learning in the context of your development and career.
  • signpost careers guidance, co-curricular opportunities and other services.
  • listen and support.
  • in some cases, attend progress review meetings with you and your employer.

How to get the most from your personal tutor appointments

To get the most from your apprenticeship programme, it’s important that you take responsibility for your academic, personal and professional development.

This means:

  • attending and actively participating in sessions and at appointments.
  • following the commitments of your training plan and the Leeds Partnership framework.
  • confirming in advance any non-attendance with good reason and asking to arrange an alternative time.
  • reviewing the SMART objectives from your previous progress review meeting and considering the progress you have made.
  • regularly updating your OTJ activity log on PebblePad.
  • going through the LeedsforLife workbook (log in to PebblePad and select ‘resources’ to find your workbook).
  • informing your personal tutor at the earliest opportunity if there are any circumstances that are affecting your progress.
  • following up on agreed 'next steps' and bring any outcomes ready for discussion at the next meeting.
  • staying in touch and engaging with any communications sent between meetings.
  • requesting additional meetings with your personal tutor if there are specific welfare or academic issues.

If you have questions or concerns about the personal tutor process, please contact your school’s Student Support team.
