Postgraduate Loan Application Process

Applications for postgraduate loans are now live and the information below explains how to choose the correct course.

On the Student Loans Company’s application for Postgraduate Loans (PGL) postgraduate courses are listed by the department within which they are studied. They are generic and are not named exactly as the course on which you intend to study.

You can find out the exact name of the academic department in which you will be studying from your offer letter, this will help you to select the correct course of study on the PGL application form.

  • The course name will include ‘FT’ or ‘PT’ denoting whether it is full time or part time.
  • The course name will indicate that the Masters course is a ‘Taught Masters’ or ‘Research Masters’.
  • The course name will state the department within which it is studied.
  • The start (entry) month of the course.

Please note for all taught courses starting in September and October the ‘SEPT entry’ course  should be chosen.

An example is:

Full Time MSc – Biodiversity and Conservation

This would be listed as

‘FT Taught Masters in the School of Biological Sciences SEPT entry’

Finding the correct course

If you are studying a 2 year FT Masters or 3 Year PT Masters, or are unable to find your course listed you should contact us (see below) to have the course checked and added to the Student Loans Company’s application system.
