Spring Holiday Activities

We’ve put together an activities programme for all students, postgraduate researchers and their partners and families over the Spring break. From 26 March and 24 April there are lots of activities to keep you entertained. Scroll down to see all the events on offer.

Wednesday 13 April

Leeds & You Team Treasure Hunt, 13:00-14:30
Come along to our fun team treasure hunt! You will have an hour to solve each of the clues. Find the letters that make the secret word that will lead you to a win and even get you a prize.
Bring weather-appropriate clothing, a team spirit and comfortable shoes – you’ll gain extra points if you’re the first team back. Families are welcome to join.

Thursday 14 April

Guided Campus Tree Trail, 10:00-11:00
Our university colleagues from LEAF (Leeds Ecosystem, Atmosphere and Forest network) will give you a guided tour of some of the amazing trees on campus and tell you all about the contributions they make to improving the environment, including mitigating climate change, improving air pollution and benefits for human health and wellbeing. 
Come along and connect with nature, while learning more about climate change and trees. The route will be accessible to all.

Tuesday 19 April

Beginners/Improvers Climbing Session at the Edge Climbing Wall, 15:00-16:30
These climbing wall sessions are ideal for complete beginners and those who may have experienced climbing already. The Instructor Andy will show you the basics of climbing, from scaling 8m high walls to coming back down safely. Climbing is a fantastic full-body workout so be prepared to challenge yourself physically and mentally! Cost: £7.00 This will cover:- Expert tuition- Loan of equipment.

Wednesday 20 April

Sustainability Tour, 12:00-13:00 and 13:00-14:00
Are you interested in discovering more about sustainability at the University of Leeds whilst socialising with other students? Join the campus based Sustainability tour led by the Faculty of Environment's Student Sustainability Architect and PhD student, Ejiro Ikoko.
Guided tours will leave at 12pm and again at 1pm.This event is open to all University of Leeds students and staff.

Litter pick on Woodhouse Moor, 16:30-18:00
Come and join us for a litter pick of Woodhouse Moor. We will be handing out litter bags and litter picking on the day. Meet us at the Duke of Wellington Statue on Woodhouse Moor at 4:30 pm.

Thursday 21 April

Sketch Along & Write Along, 10:00-17:00
Express your creativity, chat with other writers and art lovers, or simply make the most of your creativity in a calm, inspiring atmosphere. You will also geth the chance to share your work and enter a creative competition! 

This event is free and includes materials. No need to book for this event in advance but please note that spaces are limited (5 spaces available in Treasures of the Brotherton and 7 spaces available in The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery). Drop in at Leeds University Library Galleries, Parkinson Building.

Spring Break Interactive Wellbeing Walk, leaving at 12pm and 1pm 
Join us for a Lunchtime Wellbeing Walk, created by Student Wellbeing Champions in the Faculty of Environment and led by one of our fantastic Wellbeing Ambassadors, Natalie. Students and staff welcome. 

Meet us on the grassy area opposite Leeds University Union’s main entrance at 12pm or 1pm.

Thursday 21 April (postponed from 31 March)

Leeds & You Staff and Students Rounders, 16:30-18:00
Don’t know what rounders is or how to play it? Or maybe you can only vaguely remember it from playing it at school?
Come to this event to find out more about this sport or have a fun (re)introduction to it - including a review of the rules, some practice exercises and a full game with BatGirls Rounders Club. Join us for some fun in (hopefully) the sun, and get outside this March! .

This High Intensity Interval Training class will work your core, burn calories and get your blood pumping, using full body exercises!

Global Café, 17:30-19:30 (not on Easter Monday 18 Apr)
Come along to Common Ground in Leeds University Union. It’s a great place for UK and international students to relax with friends and meet new people whilst enjoying free refreshments. You don’t need to book, just turn up. Find out more here

Tuesdays

Wellbeing Pilates, 2.30-3.30pm.
Charlotte will take you through mind-body exercises to focus on increasing strength, flexibility, posture and balance.

Wednesdays

Wellbeing Yoga, 12:00-13:00
A slower paced class aimed at stretching and strengthening the body, with a focus on alignment. We'll take the time to look at how the body should be aligned in poses and offer options to modify depending on your needs.
Guidance on breath control (pranayama) and relaxation will help to bring a sense of calm and well-being to the body and mind. Suitable for all levels including those completely new to yoga.

Pen to Paper, 12:30-15:30 – Treasures of the Brotherton Gallery, Parkinson Building

Whether you can stay for ten minutes or the full three hours, Pen to Paper is free, open to everyone and all materials will be provided. Whether you are a beginner or an experienced writer, use your time to hone your creative writing skills, chat with fellow writers or simply indulge your creativity in a calm, inspiring atmosphere.

Free, no need to book in advance – just drop-in and write!

Let’s Chat, 13:00-14:00
A chance to practise your English with a fluent speaker. 
Join the Language Zone (English) TEAMS channel to take part. Join code : 4d22fsr  
This team offers activities and resources for you to practise your English language skills and meet other learners to chat to. 

Wellbeing Circuits, 13:30-14:30
Lucy will take you through a whole body workout using a circuit based approach. This session will involve a mixture of exercises using weights and body weight exercises to include strengthening and cardiovascular fitness.

Thursdays

Introduction to Exercise and Fitness, 13:30-14:30
Join Lucy who will take you back to basics with this entry level workout session. Perfect for those new to exercise and fitness. This session is open to all abilities it will leave you feeling more confident in working out independently or attending other exercise classes.

Balance Your Posture Session, 15:30-14:00
This session is designed to balance your posture, targeting areas that are most commonly tight and stuff due to being inactive for long periods or spending lots of time seated. We will work on upper and lower body mobility, to get the problem areas moving.
Strengthen the 'lazy' muscles, as well as stretch out the tight areas. You should leave feeling more balanced, nicely stretched out and relaxed.

Sketch Club, 12:30-15:30 (except 15 April)
The Stanley & Audrey Burton Gallery, Parkinson Building
Free, no need to book in advance – just drop in and draw!
Use your time to practice your sketching skills, chat with other art appreciator s or simply indulge your creativity in a calm, inspring atmosphere. Join the free Gallery Sketch Club.
 

Wellbeing Kung Fu, 16:00-17:00
Join Andy, who will lead this session teaching Shaolin Kung Fu. Andy teaches a combination of modern and traditional techniques and forms, internal Qi gong exercises to improve your health, fitness and wellbeing.
