Student Content Creators

Do you have experience in creating video based social media content and an interest in supporting other students throughout their university journey?
We are recruiting for our new University of Leeds student content creator network so that we can create more high-quality, student-led social media content that showcases authentic student experiences on our TikTok, Instagram and YouTube channels.
As a student content creator, your content will play an important role in helping to support students throughout their university journey.
This opportunity will provide you with hands-on real-world work experience as you will work collaboratively, contribute to campaigns and create enriching student-led content that will feature on the University of Leeds’ social media channels.

About the role
This role is varied and flexible – allowing you to prioritise your studies while earning money for documenting your university experience.
It may involve tasks such as creating Day in the Life TikToks, sharing advice and your own experience on YouTube and presenting voxpop videos.
The role will evolve to suit your needs, and your individual strengths and different content opportunities may arise due to audience interest and channel trends.

What you will be involved with
- Short-form video content for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube shorts.
- Vlog content for YouTube.
- Attending on and off-campus events for coverage.
- Presenting on camera.
- Contributing your own content ideas and student insight on our channels.
Working hours
The role’s hours will often be flexible to fit into your schedule. Occasional weekend or evening work may be requested to attend on-campus events and to capture content for social media.
Eligibility
This opportunity is open to all University of Leeds students, unless you are graduating in summer 2025 and not returning for a postgraduate degree in 2025.
Skills you will need
It is important for you to feel comfortable to share your university story as it is these experiences that will resonate with other students.
You will be able to:
- create impactful social media content
- be comfortable speaking in front of the camera
- show an interest in social media communications and keep up with current trends.
Previous content creation experience and confidence using social media apps and editing apps is also preferable.
Equipment you will need
You must have:
- Access to a mobile phone with internet connection and a working camera.
- The required social media apps downloaded.
- The facility to record videos on your mobile phone.
How you will be paid
This opportunity will be paid based on what you produce at an hourly rate of £12.21. You will work closely with the Social Media team to produce planned and proactive social media video content for TikTok, Instagram and YouTube.
There will be a mix of content creation based on trends as well as meaningful storytelling that shares what it is to be a student at the University of Leeds.
Content tasks will be listed and agreed, delivered, then you will get paid through Joblink based on the number of hours it has taken.
You will be paid for all of the work you do, including time spent on filming, editing and also any training and workshops you take part in.
Which content gets created and posted will be at the discretion of the central Social Media team.

- In a couple of sentences, demonstrate your knowledge of social media trends and video-based content on YouTube, TikTok and Instagram.
- What is one example of how you have demonstrated your creative flair?
- What previous content creation experience do you have?
- What experience do you have using social media and video editing apps or tools?
- Please share an example of when you have had to speak in front of a camera or do some public speaking.

The deadline for Spring 2025 applications is 21 April 2025 (11.59pm).
2. You must also include a short video (30 seconds to two minutes max) in the email telling us a bit about yourself, the social media experience you have and why you think student-led social media is important to students. If the video is too large to attach, you can upload it to WeTransfer and include a download link in the email.
3. We will review your application and, if successful, we will invite you to an online interview on Microsoft Teams in the week commencing 29 April, where you will also be asked to complete a content creation task.
4. If you are selected, you will begin your position as a student content creator.
Starting work
Successful candidates will become a part of the Social Media team. You will be invited to monthly team meetings, a Microsoft Teams space and you will receive regular emails with updates from us too.
You will also be invited to networking, training and ideation workshop sessions.
In the Teams channel, you will have access to resources and guidance documents which you can refer to and look back on after you have completed the training.
Training
To boost your skills and knowledge and to outline our expectations clearly, you will complete mandatory training at the beginning and throughout your position.
These will upskill you in:
- Instagram content creation
- impactful student led TikTok video
- video and photography
- brand and reputation management
- accessibility on social media.
