Pre-book your Meningitis B vaccine

All students can access the Meningitis B (MenB) vaccination through our on-campus pop-up clinic at the start of term, delivered in partnership with Medicare Chemists.

Many students, particularly those who are studying in Leeds for the first time will be eligible under the NHS MenB programme to receive the vaccine free of charge. Students who are not eligible for the free NHS offer can still book a vaccination at a reduced cost.

Eligibility

The Government has introduced free vaccinations to all new students under the age of 25, including International students. If you're an international Masters student, you may be eligible.

If you are over 25, or not an eligible student, you can still get a vaccine. Because this isn't funded by the government, there is a charge (normally £120 per vaccination) - it will be £100 per vaccination for our clinics.

Why get vaccinated?

Meningitis B is a rare but serious bacterial infection that can develop rapidly and become life-threatening within hours.

Students starting university are at increased risk due to:

  • moving into halls of residence or shared accommodation
  • living closely with new people
  • increased social interaction during the first weeks of term.

Getting vaccinated is one of the most effective ways to protect yourself before university begins.

On-campus vaccination clinic

A dedicated MenB vaccination clinic will be available throughout the start of term, making it easy to get protected around your welcome activities, induction sessions and events.

The vaccination is:

  • free of charge for eligible students
  • delivered on campus from 21 September to 7 October.
  • quick and simple to receive - you do not need to be registered with a GP to get your vaccination.

After you have had your first jab, you will get a text reminder to book your second jab.

Pre-book your vaccination appointment

To help you secure a convenient time slot, we recommend booking your appointment in advance. Book early to secure your preferred appointment time.

How to book

  1. Visit the NHS book a MenB vaccination appointment page
  2. Search using postcode LS2 9JT
  3. Select University of Leeds
  4. Choose a time that works best for your schedule, your appointment will be in Leeds University Union. The day before your vaccination you will get a text message with the exact room number.
