You’ll be supported by the University of Leeds to develop your skills in using generative artificial intelligence (GenAI).

This means helping you understand both the opportunities and the ethical challenges of the technology, while giving you clear guidance so you can use it responsibly and confidently in line with University expectations. 

GenAI training from the University

Mandatory AI course

As a University of Leeds student, you will be given access to the Using GenAI at Leeds resource available on Minerva.

This resource gives an introduction to responsible Generative AI use, and the recommended use of secure Copilot.

Introductory training for taught students

If you are a taught student on an undergraduate or taught Masters course, you can access introductory workshops for beginners that cover University guidance for assessments and writing effective prompts using Microsoft Copilot.

Intermediate training for taught students and postgraduate researchers

The intermediate-level workshop provides an indepth look at the tools you can use for literature review, including learning how to interrogate journal articles using Microsoft Copilot. 

Check your GenAI skills and knowledge

Check your AI knowledge and skills by completing the Jisc Discovery Tool question set. It will help you see what you already know and find areas where you can improve your skills.

Responsible AI Principles and Practical Applications

This online programme for beginners covers the benefits and risks of AI and a few of the ways it is being used to support areas of work.

Using Microsoft Copilot

Accessing Copilot securely

Access Copilot via the secure Copilot website, ensuring you are signed-in using your University of Leeds username and password.

Getting started with writing AI prompts

Visit Microsoft to learn more about how to write effective prompts for Copilot. 

Assistive technology and AI support

Visit the University of Leeds Assistive Technology Sharepoint to access guidance on using Microsoft 365 Copilot chat as an assistive technology, view example prompts and watch a webinar.
