You’re part of a Global Community in the diverse city of Leeds. So that means you have lots of opportunities to share and explore delicious food and food cultures from all corners of the world. 

Eat Global activities are based around one of the most important things in our lives. Food carries powerful personal and cultural associations. It forges relationships and builds communities. When we cook or eat together, we celebrate our heritage by sharing our favourite food, we’re being adventurous and try something we’ve never tasted before, we find common ground with different people and we do our bit to make a better world while looking after our wellbeing too.

Great Food at Leeds Cookery School 

Want to learn to cook delicious healthy meals? Join the fun monthly cooking demonstrations hosted by Great Food at Leeds. 

Each month chefs from Great Food at Leeds share some of their favourite recipes. You’ll have the opportunity to watch food being prepared and cooked, taste the finished dish and ask questions.

Entry is free but you need to book your place by clicking on the links above. Bookings open two weeks in advance of the event. These demonstrations take place at the far end of the Refectory.

Rainbow Junktion Community Café and volunteering

Global Community partners with Rainbow Junktion for some of our Eat Global activities.

This local community café collects food that would otherwise have been wasted and turns it into healthy meals to serve to the whole community. Food is served on a pay-as-you-feel basis (you decide how much you pay) meaning cost is never a barrier to a good meal.

There are opportunities for students to volunteer at the café, helping to prepare and serve food. If you'd like to volunteer on a regular basis you can contact the cafe directly. There is also the opportunity to create an event with the café by taking part in the Intercultural Ambassadors Programme. 

Every year, Rainbow Junktion café serves a traditional Christmas Day Meal which many students staying in Leeds during the holidays attend and help prepare. You can find more information in out of term time activities.
