Resit Fee FAQs

Find information about what happens if you’ve already paid, or you’ve been charged. Additonally you can find out whether it’s back-dated and who to speak to if you’ve got a specific question.

I took a resit in January and have been charged.  Will the fee be cancelled?

Yes, fees for resits in January 2024 will no longer apply.  These charges were applied to student accounts before the decision to remove resit fees was made.

If you haven’t yet paid this charge, you can ignore it and it will be removed from your account in due course. If you have already paid the charge, this will be refunded back by the same method you paid.  Please allow us 28 days to process the reversal and associated refund. There is no need to contact your School, or the Fees team in order to request a refund.

I have a resit coming up in May/June and/or August and have already been charged.  Will the fee be cancelled?

Can I have a refund for resit fees from previous years of study?

The decision applies for resit fees for resits taken during the 2023/24 academic year onwards, and is for current students. Unfortunately, we’re not able to revisit fees charged in previous years of study. This includes fees for finalists who undertook resits in November 2023; unfortunately, we are not able to revisit those charges.

Why am I still being charged to take a resit overseas?

When you take a resit examination overseas, the host venue will make a charge for this.  The University does not have control over these fees.  The University does not receive any income from these fees, as they go to the host venue.

Previously, the University charged a £50 administration fee for arranging overseas resits, in addition to the fees charged by host venues. This administration fee will no longer exist. If you were charged the £50 administration fee for taking exams overseas during January 2024, this charge will be cancelled.

Will there still be fees if I need to retake a full year?

Yes, where students retake the whole, or part of, an academic year, the same arrangements for tuition fees will apply, as they do now. These are tuition fees rather than resit fees.
