From September 2026, the University of Leeds has five faculties.
A faculty is a group of related schools within the University. The faculty helps to organise activities across schools with similar subject and research areas. Your school is part of one of five faculties.
Two new faculties have been created:
- Faculty of Health and Life Sciences: bringing together schools previously within Biological Sciences and Medicine and Health
- Faculty of Environment and Social Sciences: bringing together schools previously within Environment and Social Sciences.
The new structure brings related academic areas closer together and is intended to make it easier for schools to collaborate, share expertise and work more consistently across the University.
Our other three faculties remain the same:
- Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Cultures
- Leeds University Business School
- Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences.
What this means for you
There is no change to your day-to-day experience.
As a result of the new faculty structure, there is no change to your:
- school
- degree programme
- teaching
- assessment
- academic support
- student support
- usual school contacts.
The change is mainly about how schools are grouped together and how faculties are organised and led.
The University will continue to review how its academic structures work. If any future proposal directly affects students, we will explain what is changing and what it means for you before that change takes place.
What you might notice
You may see new faculty names appearing on:
- University websites
- emails and other communications
- signs and printed materials
- some University systems.
Updates will take place over time, so you may occasionally see a previous faculty name alongside the new one.
