The industry visits during the programme were very impactful in learning the struggling issues of Leeds and Daejeon, in which technology has a very high potential to be an integral element to solve world issues such as poor lifestyle, income inequality, and mental health. For example, visiting the Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI) in Daejeon provided me with insight into how South Korea is driven in implementing high technology towards types of equipment for everyday use such as the bone conduction telephone for people with hearing impairments. I had an in-depth understanding of how organizations work, from a start-up to a multinational. Through these visits, I am more exposed to the pressing issues surrounding both cities, developing my intercultural way of thinking in solving the problems at hand.
