Short-term loans

We may be able to offer you a short-term loan if your Student Loan, NHS Bursary or other student funding is delayed through no fault of your own. If you applied for your student loan after 31 August you will not be considered for a LHF loan.

LHF loans are intended to help with basic living costs only, and cannot help with larger financial commitments such as rent arrears. The loans are limited to a maximum of £50 per week, up to a maximum total of £400.

You would be expected to have already accessed all other sources of funding, such as help from family and bank overdrafts. If you haven’t applied for a student overdraft you would expected to do so before you can be considered for an award.

You must repay your short-term loan when your support comes through. We will take action to recover the debt if you fail to pay.
