Newsletter sent to returning international students on 4 September

Hello and welcome back! We hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy.

Like us, you’re probably excited for the start of the new academic year.Although things may be different this year, we’ll be here to help you make the most of your time at Leeds.

We’ll be bringing you the latest news and updates and reminding you of the important things you need to do throughout the year. We’ll share details about face to face and online events to help you meet  friends along your journey, and tell you more about the resources and support available.

Over the next few weeks, we’ll use this newsletter, our current students Facebook group and Twitter account to help you get settled back into University life and to share information about some of the changes that have been made this year. If you’re not already following us on social media, click on the links above and follow us!

We’ll also be sharing information and advice with new students, so if there’s anything useful that you want to pass on to them, whether that’s travel tips, the best place for coffee or getting a bite to eat, or a favourite location or shop, send it to studentcommunications@leeds.ac.uk and we’ll include it in one of our next newsletters and share on our social media channels.

Take care and stay safe!

Best wishes from the Student Communications Team.

Settling back into university life

This past year has seen us all adapt and change in so many ways and we’re proud of the strength and determination you’ve shown.

As you prepare to return to Leeds and start a new academic year, we’ve put together some tips and guidance to help you settle back into uni life.  Additionally, why not take our "Becoming an online learner" course to help you get ready for the start of term? You can also take our free FutureLearn course designed to help you Prepare to Study Online at University.

Completing online registration

One of the first things you’ll need to do this term is complete registration. Many of you have already done this but if you’ve still not registered or you’re unsure of what to do, follow our step by step guide on how to complete registration

As a returning student, you can usually complete this process fully online. It is very quick and easy to do!

International travel and arrival support

If you are coming to Leeds from outside the UK you’ll find useful travel and arrival information on our Preparing for Leeds webpages, including how to book our arrival services and how we can support you if you need to self-isolate. These services are available to all new and returning students travelling from outside the UK, so please complete our international arrivals booking form to let us know your plans as soon as possible.

Student information points

From 14 September, we’re introducing a number of student information points on campus where our friendly and knowledgeable team can help answer the questions you may have on any aspect of your student life. This includes answering questions or signposting you to where you can find information about teaching locations, welcome and induction, and Faculty or School information.

You can already contact the team, Monday to Friday:

  • Email the student information helpline: studentinfo@leeds.ac.uk
  • Call +44 (0)113 343 7000 (from outside of the UK)
  • Call 0800 915 0402 (from inside the UK. This is free phone number, and you won’t be charged for calling this from your mobile or landline).

Find contact details of other teams that can help.

Moving in to your accommodation

We know that many of you have already started moving in to your accommodation. Whether you’re moving in to University-owned accommodation or private accommodation, help and support is available. Support is also available for those of you who may be moving to Leeds with family, or haven’t yet found permanent accommodation. Find out more about moving to Leeds.

What will life on campus be like?

Although the COVID-19 pandemic means some things will be different, we’re committed to providing you with the student experience you expect. Next week, we’ll be sharing three videos with you about what life on campus will be like, including information about the safety measures that will be in place and more details about what learning and teaching will be like this year.

We’ll tell you more about this in our next newsletter! Until then, take care of yourself and stay safe!

Best wishes from the Student Communications Team
