Welcome team and social assistants
Each year we recruit a team of students and recent graduates to support new international students arriving in Leeds. The positions have a varied workload with start dates in June, August and September.
For all roles, there are lots of skills to be gained. We are looking for people who have great communication and relationship-building skills, are sensitive to the needs of people from diverse cultures, enjoy intercultural interaction and have a strong desire to help students to have a great experience.
Welcome Team Assistant
The welcome team works together in a range of different environments to meet new students needs and help them to feel settled into their new life as quickly and comfortably as possible. There are several areas of the team to get involved in. As an Information Assistant you could provide help and support to new UK and international students about start-up processes such as registration and opening a bank account. As a Meet and Greet Assistants youll work in pairs at Leeds Bradford Airport and Leeds Train Station to make sure students receive a friendly welcome as soon as they arrive. As part of the team you could also lead on activities such as tours and social events.
Welcome Team Coordinator
If you have previously worked on the welcome team or as a social assistant, you can apply to be a coordinator, supervising the teams of assistants and managing the day-to-day running of the welcome, registration and Global Community activities. One of the coordinator positions start in the summer to provide general administrative support to the International Student Office team working on the welcome programme.
Leeds International Summer School (LISS) Social Assistant
Apply to become a social assistant and help students who are coming to the University on a four week educational programme make new friends, settle in and feel welcome whilst they enjoy a taste of British university life and culture.
Language Centre Social Assistant
Work with a team of social assistants supporting Language Centre students preparing their English language skills for further study at the University. You would be supporting their orientation, wellbeing and integration into the University of Leeds and life in the UK by organising activities, encouraging participation and creating a sense of community over the summer.
